How do I get started?
First think about what are you selling and how many products you will have. This will help you select a ShopSite package. Then think about features you want to offer to customers. The Starter ShopSite package will have basic features. More features and functionality are included in the Manager, and still more are included with the Pro package. You can set up the store yourself using ShopSite's set up wizard, or have someone design your shopping cart for you.
There are four basic steps to selling your product online with a ShopSite shopping cart. 1) Open a Local Checking Account with a banking institution so you can receive deposits. 2) Open a merchant account so that you will be able to accept credit cards. 3) Open a Payment Gateway account so you can connect between the Internet (your website) and secure banking and credit card networks to process your payment. 4) Configure your ShopSite store to work with your merchant account and payment gateway.
What is a merchant account?
A merchant account is a bank account that is designed to process debit and credit card payments, then deposit those funds into your local checking account (for a fee). A merchant account can be established for an online business, a brick and mortar business or both. If you already have a merchant account, contact your bank to make sure you can accept online payments via your website with your account type.
Do I need a merchant account?
Yes. You will need to have a merchant account to accept payments via your website. You will also need a payment gateway to transfer information securely from your website to your banking institution. Verio does not offer merchant accounts or payment gateways.
What is a payment gateway?
A payment gateway is a service that provides a connection between the Internet (your website) and secure banking and credit card networks where your merchant account resides.
What if I already have a PayPal or other merchant account?
You can link directly over to your PayPal account to process a sale directly from the ShopSite shopping cart.
How can I become PCI Compliant?
PCI Compliance can be a troublesome task for the average company. Verio offers scan-ready hosting platforms and compliant payment gateway solutions from AuthorizeNet or Braintree that may help your business with the steps needed to meet compliancy regulations.
Do I need to pay for an SSL account?
No. We provide a shared SSL for all of our hosting plans that you can use at no extra charge. If you prefer to have a private SSL certificate, you can purchase one from a third party vendor for an additional fee. We recommend you purchase an SSL certificate from Global Sign or GeoTrust. Note: You will need a dedicated IP address for a private SSL certificate. We include a dedicated IP address with each Verio hosting account at no additional charge.
Can I have multiple shopping carts?
If you select a Linux VPS or Linux MPS plan you can add multiple websites and IP addresses, and therefore have multiple shopping carts.
Can my shopping cart pages be found by the search engines?
Yes. ShopSite pages are static which is better for Search Engine Optimization. When content is dynamically generated it can't be indexed by the search engines. Static content is always there and easily findable.
Will my shopping cart look like the rest of my site?
Yes. You can either use the shopping cart itself to promote your products and information, or create a website for your information and simply link to the shopping cart for “buy now” functionality when your visitor is ready to purchase. Either way you can add graphics to your shopping cart so that it matches your branding (your website's look and feel).
