Fifty Shades of Grey porn parody update

A couple weeks back, I wrote about the legal battle over Adult Source Media’s planned parody/adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. Undeterred or maybe just oblivious, two more studios have announced Fifty Shades of Grey porn parodies, both slated for June 2012 release. Porn moves quickly.

The decidedly lowbrow, low-budget studio White Ghetto has churned out a bunch of “XXX spoofs” over the last couple years, most of which have no parody content beyond the title and box cover. This Isn’t Footloose … It’s A XXX Spoof! was just a compilation of foot fetish sex scenes. This Isn’t The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo … It’s a XXX Spoof! collected sex scenes featuring pornstars with tattoos. This Isn’t The Help … It’s a XXX Spoof! had a fantastic box cover but no plot, just six interracial sex scenes.

White Ghetto has This Isn’t 50 Shades of Grey… It’s a XXX Spoof! on its release schedule for June 21, 2012. It will likely be a plotless collection of 5-6 sex scenes with some vague BDSM elements. This very lack of ambition should protect White Ghetto from the legal trouble facing Adult Source Media.

Meanwhile, Jim Powers announced plans to direct a porn parody of the second book in the trilogy, Fifty Shades Darker, for Smash Pictures. Allie Haze and Ryan Driller will star as Anastasia and Christian. Judging from Powers’s past parodies of Rollerball, Lord of the Rings, Bridesmaids, et al, the parody element will be obvious and there will be no danger of anyone confusing Powers’s version with an authorized adaptation. Powers and Smash should be in the clear legally as well.

We haven’t heard anything about Adult Source Media’s project since the lawsuit threat dustup. Their “Intimate Encounters” romance porn line aims for decent production values (by porn standards, at least), so we would expect a longer concept-to-completion time even without lawyers getting involved.
