Tour of the Moon 2012
The inaugural Tour of the Moon was a great event! Nearly 2000 riders were greeted by fantastic weather, an incredible route, a great host city, not to mention riding and chatting with Tommy D!
The ICON LASIK Tour of the Moon kicked off with a showing of the movie American Flyers (Kevin Costner). The movie supported the Colorado Riverfront Commission. The Colorado Riverfront Commission is working on connecting and extending the trail system throughout the Grand Junction area. Scott Christopher who was an extra in American Flyers kicked the evening off with some great stories about the filming of the movie then he introduced Tom Danielson. Tom spoke to the audience of several hundred and answered questions about this years racing in particular his incredible stage win in the USA Pro Challenge.
On Saturday, the ride kicked off at 7:30 am. It was a bit chilly early but within a few minutes everyone was climbing up the Colorado National Monument and shedding their arm warmers and jackets.
After the long climb up the Monument riders had some nice roads to ride out through Fruita and then back to Grand Junction.
After the ride Tom Danielson spoke to the crowds and conveyed what a great time it was for all.
There were reports that one rider did have some medical issues during the ride. His condition is not known. Our thoughts are with him and his family.
Thanks to everyone for participating in the inaugural ICON LASIK Tour of the Moon!
