spacer During Tuesday evening’s coverage of the first night of the 2012 Democratic National Convention, MSNBC and mothership station NBC beat all other networks in both total viewership and the age 25-54 demo.

For primetime cable network coverage, MSNBC nearly doubled the demo total of competitor Fox News:

8-11PM Primetime Viewers in 25-54 Demo
MSNBC: 1,067,970
CNN: 1,002,048
Fox: 554,294

In total viewership, MSNBC also won the evening:

8-11PM Primetime Total Viewers
MSNBC: 3,298,273
CNN: 3,003,298
Fox: 2,515,003

During the 10 p.m. hour, NBC and MSNBC beat out every other network in both demo and total viewership:

10-11PM Viewers in 25-54 Demo
NBC: 1,929,345
MSNBC: 1,431,929
CNN: 1,367,998
ABC: 1,142,927
CBS: 1,056,844
FNC: 550,149

10-11PM Total Viewers
NBC: 5,021,551
MSNBC: 4,106,622
CNN: 3,887,789
CBS: 3,268,520
ABC: 3,236,553
FNC: 2,397,710

All of the broadcast networks experienced a decline in viewership from the first night of 2008′s DNC — NBC is down 16%, CBS is down 15%, and ABC down 32%. Additionally, aside from MSNBC, all cable news networks saw decreased viewership from 2008′s first night. Fox News was down 31% and CNN saw 19% decrease.

Last week, Fox News won the first night of RNC coverage with 6,878,804 total viewers.

All figures via Nielsen Media Research.

Can’t wait to see how the libbies spin this one (especially if they click on the hyperlink of the RNC coverage.)

Less people, period, are watching the democrat clown show. Gee, I wonder why?

  • apostrophejones.com/ Gloves Donahue

Wackjob libs drawn to the wackjob  lib channel.

See.  The liberals know where to get their liberal views validated:  NBC, MSNBC, and CNN.
Brian Williams, Chuck Todd, David Gregory and Tom Brokaw providing the left what it wants.

    NBC, National Bullcrap Company.

there is no need to spin it, 21 million people watched the DNC compared to 20 million people who watched the RNC sure its only a million but hey you started it ^_^

lol you tbags aren’t too good at math are you?
try adding all total viewers 10pm-11pm
21 918 745 ppl watched the DNC convention
20 572 670 ppl watched the tbag convention
    in the demo 25-54
    7 479 192 ppl watched the DNC vs 6 088 833 for the RNC

    now answer the right question
Less people, period, are watching the republican clown show. Gee, I wonder why?

    don’t get dizzy spinning

  • tommyboy14

Have you seen Fox’s coverage of both conventions?

Wow, they stunk up the airwaves.

  • tommyboy14

    lol…

20,000,000+ viewers watched on “MSM” – vs. Boo Hoo FoKKKs 2.3mm – Teabaggers.

Lyin Ryan and Mitt the Twitt better create a new lie soon!

Face it you’re a cult of liars, hate and fear.  Nuzis.  You do not represent America – you represent the worst of Germany in the 30s – and you allow the Taliban Teabaggers to run your party for the Corporate Citizen.  Real Republicans – you do not represent.  Conservatives you do not represent – you represent what happens when a cult goes to far in an open democratic society – with the use of 24/7 propaganda.

21 million people watched Michelle Obama vs. Ann Romney. If the numbers are correct, that’s just 1,000,0000 difference. Those are not good odds.

Well, tonight, NBC’s going to have a Republican on for three hours speaking (Al Michaels), and they’re going to quintuple their ratings…

  • ॐ peaceful_revolutionary

    Not good odds for whom?

  • ॐ peaceful_revolutionary

That enthusiasm gap doesn’t seem quite as great for the Democrats.

  • Anonymous

MSNBC finished higher than CNN or Fox for the first time in convention coverage, ever.

I suspect this has as much to do with Fox News viewers just not wanting to view coverage of the Democratic National Convention as anything else. But CNN has to look at those numbers in some dismay.

  • Anonymous

So does that mean we can’t be friends. Hey, sing along with me, Romney Ryan in 2012, let’s put obama on the shelf. LOUDER. Romney Ryan 54-46, can you say president Romney, try it.

Crying a river as usual, Bloyer.

Hard to draw many conclusions other than fewer are watching than 2008.
However it is safe to say that MSDNC has a corner on the more partisan D’s as an audience.
Given there are more D’s and greater “youth” involvement, you would expect higher demo and overall numbers. Again, I wonder how many I’s and less motivated D’s have just skipped the convention.
