spacer During Wednesday evening’s coverage of the second night of the 2012 Democratic National Convention, ABC beat all other networks during the 10 p.m. primetime broadcast in total viewership and the demo, while during the 8-11 p.m. hours of broadcast, MSNBC continued to beat all cable news networks in viewership and demo.

Among cable news nets, MSNBC was the only network to achieve 1 million viewers in the age 25-54 demo:

8-11PM Primetime Viewers in 25-54 Demo
MSNBC: 1,003,068
CNN: 961,695
FNC: 629,025

And the network also achieved the highest total viewership for the 8-11 p.m. broadcast:

8-11PM Coverage Total Viewers
MSNBC: 3,307,740
CNN: 2,919,265
FNC: 2,699,098

During the 10 p.m. primetime hour, which featured speeches from Elizabeth Warren and Bill Clinton, ABC won in both total viewership and the demo:

10-11PM Total Viewers
ABC: 4,587,224
CBS: 4,410,140
MSNBC: 4,387,567
CNN: 4,134,662
FNC: 3,102,606

10-11PM Viewers in 25-54 Demo
ABC: 1,728,724
CBS: 1,723,928
CNN: 1,543,771
MSNBC: 1,419,115
FNC: 813,816

NBC aired the season opening New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys football game and was thus not counted among convention ratings.

Damn… still more total viewers than the RNC convention.

I believe NBC was the actual winner with over 20 million watching the Tony Romo/Eli Manning convention.

ABC on Wednesday and Thursday buried coverage of the embarrassing
spectacle of Democratic delegates booing the reinsertion of God and
Jerusalem to the party’s platform. World News, Nightline and live coverage of Wednesday’s convention completely ignored the gaffe. Good Morning America’s Jake Tapper on Thursday breezed by it with a single sentence: “Lots of infighting about the party platform.”

What was the problem, exactly? Tapper didn’t say. (He did explain it online.) NBC’s Nightly News and the CBS Evening News both covered it, Wednesday night.(BiasAlert rundown of Wednesday night coverage.)
On Thursday, CBS This Morning’s Nancy
Cordes observed that “earlier in the day,” the “party had to publicly
rework the Democratic platform because they forgot to put a mention of
God in there and a mention about Jerusalem being the capital of Israel.”

No Norm, we’re just too evolved to waste time on LIES and misinformation; but you keep sipping the kool aid like a good lemming!

Day one numbers were an exact tie for the DNC and RNC.
Day two per both mediaite stories: DNC had 20.6 million total viewers, and the RNC 20.1 million total viewers.

I think it is pretty amazing with 300 million citizens, and targeting two different sides of the country for each convention it is quite remarkable that the viewership is nearly identical to date. It may show that people who follow politics in general will watch both, and the rest of society at large just isn’t interested enough to watch either. However I think between other cable channels like CSPAN, MTV, the web live broadcasts not included we do not have as accurate number of viewers like we did years ago when it was the 3 networks or nothing.

How do the ratings (both RNC and DNC) compare to 4 years ago?

You right-wing jack*sses sure know a lot about “sipping the kool aid.”
Seriously, can you come up with more creative talking points? Come to think of it, have you ever had an original thought or idea in your life?

Go cowboys! Poor Clinton, can’t do nothing to beat Football!

Brilliant comment. Any pundit said this yet. Independents will decide the election watching ad’s between Dancing with the Stars segments lol They don’t watch conventions. Those brilliant Americans will decide the future of the Free World.

Actually, when PBS’s estimated ratings are tossed in, Clinton beats out the replacement referees. Sorry, but that’s the breaks.

Get the hell over it. If news organizations actually bothered with things as pointless as platforms, we’d still be talking about the medieval crap in the RNC platform, so be glad they’re ignored.

In a way its nice to see Fox come in last place, which when compared to their dominance of the Republican convention shows more people expect more desirable coverage of Obama on MSDNC and the other networks than Fox, and the reverse for the Republican convention.
