What the Election Says About Social CRM
What the Election Says About Social CRM
Wednesday - November 14, 2012
I tried to wait a bit before commenting on the election and the Social CRM implications partly out of respect and in part to give everyone a chance to rev down. Besides, these observations have much more to do with social media than with any political party or policy initiative, so please believe me when I say, I come in peace. According to The New York Times, the major candidates and their surrogates spent more than $6 billion on the presidential campaign, making it the most lavish in history, if that's the right word.

Mobile CRM and its related technologies have intrigued developers and users alike for years. When Disaster Strikes, Customer Service Exceptions Are the Rule
When Disaster Strikes, Customer Service Exceptions Are the Rule
Thursday - November 8, 2012
Disasters -- be they man-made or natural, like Hurricane Sandy -- showcase the best in people. Neighbor helps neighbor like never before, people share what they have, and assistance comes from unexpected places. They also showcase people at their worst -- looters, scammers and other lowlifes emerge and heartlessly seek to profit from the victims. Then there are businesses that do the same.

The End of the Social Era
The End of the Social Era
Tuesday - November 6, 2012
I was so looking forward to getting the Facebook IPO out of the way, and then splat, like a ripe tomato in the kisser, we have to learn that the underwriters might not have shared some pre-IPO information transparently. Enough already! Bankers appear to be tone deaf to the fallout from their gross behavior.

Have You Forgotten All the Cool Things Your CRM App Can Do?
Monday - November 5, 2012
If you mention a certain brand of lower-priced, assemble-it-yourself furniture of
Scandinavian heritage, you stand a pretty good chance of getting a response that
dwells at some length on how hard it is to put it together. I've never felt that way
-- in reality, I actually like putting stuff together. It's not that I'm good at it -- I've just learned to follow the directions. If only CRM were as simple.

If You Build a Good Customer Experience, Fans Will Come
Thursday - November 1, 2012
I'm a gigantic San Francisco Giants fan -- so, two World Series Championships in three years has been something of a dream come true. But when I was a kid, my family was devoted to the Oakland A's -- as they won three consecutive championships from 1972-1974. As a much younger adult, I worked for the Giants -- but today, I live about five miles from o.Co Coliseum, the home of the A's.

The New Marketing
The New Marketing
Wednesday - October 31, 2012
I spent a day last week in Boston attending a conference called the "Inbound Marketing Summit" organized by my friend and former analyst Allen Bonde. Inbound marketing IMHO is taking off in some important dimensions. Inbound marketing is a cool idea that's been pushed by multiple companies recently. For instance, HubSpot held its user meeting early in the summer, and it was all inbound marketing all the time.
