What is FancyBox

FancyBox is a tool for displaying images, html content and multi-media in a Mac-style “lightbox” that floats overtop of web page.

It was built using the jQuery library. Licensed under both MIT and GPL licenses

FancyBox Feature

  • Can display images, HTML elements, SWF movies, brs and also Ajax requests
  • Customizable through settings and CSS
  • Groups related items and adds navigation.
  • If the mouse wheel plugin is included in the page then FancyBox will respond to mouse wheel events as well
  • Support fancy transitions by using easing plugin
  • Adds a nice drop shadow under the zoomed item

WordPress Plugins for FanyBox

1. Easy FancyBox

Easy FancyBox can Easily enable the FancyBox 1.3.1 jQuery extension on all JPG, BMP, GIF, PNG and SWF links. Multi-Site compatible and supports br and Flash movies. No options to be set. No configuration pages. It just gives you FancyBox-in-a-Box for all links to image (.jpg/.bmp/.gif/.png) and Flash movie (.swf) files. Easy FancyBox uses the packed FancyBox 1.3.1 jQuery extension, is WP 3.0 Multi-Site compatible and supports br and Flash movies -including YouTube and others- in an overlay.

2. Fancy Gallery

Fancy Gallery integrates the Fancy Image Box in your WordPress. All links pointing to an image will automatically opened in the FancyBox. If you use the [ Gallery] Short-code the images will get a navigation and the gallery itself will converted into a valid XHTML block.

3. PWA+PHP

PWA+PHP is a lightweight solution for displaying your private (unlisted) and public Picasa Albums within WordPress in your language using Fancybox, Shadowbox or Lightbox. The plugin provides a guided installer that helps you generate your gdata token and set display options for your albums.

PWA+PHP extends the capabilites of Picasa albums, allowing you to group albums by keywords in the title. Using this capability, you can create several photo pages in WordPress and show different groups of albums on each page. You can even allow users to download full-size copies of your images.

4. Cleaner Gallery

Cleaner Gallery was written to take care of the invalid XHTML that WordPress produces when using the [ gallery] shortcode.

It does a bit more than that though. It will integrate with many Lightbox-type scripts(of course include FancyBox) and allow you to do much cooler things with your galleries. Plus, it has a couple of extra options that you can play around with.

5. Polaroid Gallery

Polaroid Gallery is a CSS3 & jQuery Image Gallery plugin for WordPress Media Library. It is used to overlay images as polaroid pictures on the current page or post and uses WordPress Media Library.

6. FancyBox Gallery

FancyBox Gallery integrates the FancyBox jQuery plugin into the WordPress gallery functionality. Simply use the gallery shortcode to display thumbnails in your posts with the option to link directly to the images (not the attachment template), and the plugin handles the rest. You get nice popups for the larger sized images, scaled to fit in the browser window, with a nice overlay effect.

7. FancyBox for WordPress

FancyBox for WordPress seamlessly integrates FancyBox into your blog: Upload, activate, and you’re done. No further configuration needed. However, you can customize it from the Options Page if you like… spacer

You can easely customize almost anything you can think about fancybox: the border, margin width and color, zoom speed, animation type, close button position, overlay color and opacity and even more advanced option like several options to group images into galleries, and more…

By default, the plugin will use jQuery to apply FancyBox to ANY thumbnails that link directly to an image. This includes posts, the sidebar, etc, so you can activate it and it will be applied automatically.
