Microsoft Perceptive Pixel Acquisition Wows Partners

Microsoft has acquired Perceptive Pixel, a multi-touch company that supplies big-screen systems to CNN and executive boardrooms. A Perceptive Pixel multi-touch demonstration wowed attendees today at Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference 2012 (WPC12), setting the stage for collaboration across big-screen white boards, video conferencing, tablets and more. If Perceptive Pixel works as demonstrated today, partners could gain newfound faith in Microsoft’s multi-touch user interface strategy.

According to a company backgrouder:

“Founded in 2006, Perceptive Pixel has become a recognized leader in interaction design, having pioneered the research, development and production of high-performance multi-touch platforms. We shipped our first multi-touch workstations and large wall solutions in 2007 and gained widespread recognition for transforming the way CNN covered the historic 2008 U.S. Presidential election. In 2009, the Smithsonian awarded Perceptive Pixel the National Design Award in the inaugural category of Interaction Design. In 2011, we broke new ground when we introduced the world’s largest projected capacitive display – twice.  And in 2012, we extended our track record of technological innovation by unveiling the first-ever simultaneous pen and touch solution.”

The Perceptive Pixel acquisition closed CEO Steve Ballmer’s keynote today, which featured Windows 8 launch date updates and an Office 365 billing policy update for cloud partners.

   The folks over at WorkSpace hosted Lync can’t wait to get our hands on Perceptive Pixel to integrate into our Lync Help-Desk outsourcing services. This will be a valuable tool for our command center personnel and our cloud customers on WorkSpace Lync.
