Northern New Mexico College Baccalaureate Program in Nursing Awarded Accreditation from Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education

Espacer spañola, NM – Northern’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences is pleased to announce that the baccalaureate program in nursing at Northern New Mexico College is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530, Washington D.C., 20036, (202) 887-6791.

The CCNE has granted accreditation to the baccalaureate degree program in nursing at Northern New Mexico College for a term that extends to December 31, 2016. The CCNE performed an on-site evaluation in February of 2011 and determined that Northern’s BSN program met all accreditation standards. The Director of the baccalaureate nursing program at NNMC, Dr. Nina Klebanoff, says, "Obtaining this full 5-year accreditation (this is the highest possible number of years granted upon initial accreditation by the CCNE) reflects the high caliber of this Program and its value to the College, community, and region."

National nursing accreditation focuses on the quality of higher education within institutions of both higher and professional education. Accreditation serves as a statement of good educational practice in the field of nursing and provides the basis continuous self-assessment and quality improvement of collegiate professional nursing education.

In the 30-year history of nursing education at Northern, this is the first time that a nursing program has achieved national accreditation. This historic accomplishment is the culmination of a rigorous five-year effort to create and implement an innovative, holistic baccalaureate nursing program for the Northern community and represents the hard work of the nursing faculty, students, and staff at Northern. In May of 2011, Northern graduated its first five baccalaureate degree nursing students.  Graduates of nationally accredited nursing baccalaureate programs are eligible to apply to graduate school.
