Mass Effect 3 Anime Trailer Hits

You read that right: a Mass Effect 3 anime.
It's surreal to think of the Mass Effect-verse being flattened into a traditional 2D animation, but that's exactly what's happening with Mass Effect: Paragon Lost, a prequel to the events of Mass Effect 3. This first trailer was just revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, ahead of a planned Blu-ray and DVD release of November 2012.
So besides some krogan and some vague fighting scenes, this trailer doesn't really reveal much... except perhaps the loading of a gun, which I'm hoping is symbolic of this thing being loaded with promise. The anime will see James Vega -- a hollow-eyed Normandy fixture who was never cool enough to join your squad -- and his battle against the Collectors. BioWare apparently designed him with specific plans for this anime, so this will hopefully end up being more than just the vaguely-related story of some extraneous NPC.
It's being put together by the guys behind classic anime Ghost in the Shell, and the style definitely carries over. I still feel this is rather at odds with the Mass Effect world we've come to know, but maybe the change will color the series' lore with further complexity, who knows?
