Nightly GIMP, GEGL, babl tarball builds
I have spent the last few weeks working on setting up nightly tarball builds of GIMP, GEGL and babl. Today I am glad to announce that this is up and running.
This means that from now on you don't have to wait for development snapshots or build from git in order to test the bleeding edge GIMP code. Nightly tarballs can be found at:

It also means that the work I have put on infrastructure and authoring of test cases is more valuable now that the tests are continously run, and that we have a better GIMP development setting where regressions can be discovered as early as possible and thus also more easily fixed.
A natural extension to this is to also do nightly builds of binaries, in particular for Windows for which it is quite inconvenient to build from source. But that will be a later project...
A big thanks to Cameron Gregory at FlamingText.com who donated the server for the nightly builds.

Finally some nightlies for GIMP like the way it's been with Blender's www.graphicall.org for a long time!! It's been extremely hard to find Windows binaries of the current Gimp development, so can't wait till that goes up aswell.
A Windows nightly build would be awesome - the last 1.7 version I downloaded crashed as soon as I entered Text mode, which is ironically what I wanted to test.

It is really a good news to read that GIMP ??: Add support for heavy duty printing (of which CMYK is a subset). I tried my best to deal with the problems of colors. Hope the new version with CMYK will release soon.

Don't hold your breath for a GIMP version with good CMYK support because it is several years until we get there.

After clicking "Separate (to Colour)", the dialogue box of Separate appears. Do I have to change the options of
Source profile & Destination profile in order to improve the color problem, such as the pic below?

Hi I've made a script with which anyone can easily compile the lastest git version of gimp thanks to a simple GUI. I'm interested to download the nightly packages from terminal with ''wget'' but actually it's not possible since it gives me an error about the passive mode :-( can you please help me?? thanks a lot.

Has there been any news on getting a Windows build? Access to an up-to-date build would be excellent, and would help improve the stability of GIMP on this platform for people not able to switch to Linux for various reasons.
Any news on the dev-schedule?

I think it would be very (can't express how much)useful to inform the public about the new schedule. To learn about the delay on the last day before the planned and announced release, could be a huge disappointment, I suppose... No offense, just a suggestion.

This is not a forum, it's my blog :) Building GIMP for Windows is not my thing I'm afraid, so I don't have any special tips to give you
Is GIMP 2.8 released today? Or not?
GIMP 2.8 is not even close to being released today. A release is at least a few months ahead. I am working on a new schedule (or rather, a new website that can host a new schedule).
Frankly, I wasn't aware of human resources shortages you have there. I've been thinking that gimp is big...
It appears Mr.Nordholts, that you are the last one manning the drekar.... and the storm is upon you. :)

The gimptest.flamingtext.com server is located in Brisbane, Australia, which currently is flooded, so the server is temporarily down.
If you know someone who can set up an automated Windows build, they might be able to start one of those "donate to a project" online sites, and see if there is enough people to put hands in pockets to get it done.
I'm sure there are plenty of Windows users who would really like to be testing the latest nightly builds of GIMP in order to test for bugs / features as a way of giving back, esp as we of course don't tend to be as techie as Linux users as in downloading and compiling our own builds of software.
I'd def donate 20 bucks or so - times 50, and someone has a nice new computer right there.

Thanks for nightly builds. Really useful since I have been waiting for 2.7.2. However, I have found the flamingtext site to be slow. I will be happy to mirror the nightly tars if you want. Also, I am planning to provide 64-bit Windows builds if there is any interest.
