Uncharted 2 Gets Zombied Up

Posted on November 1st, 2009 by Gamoc

Been playing Uncharted 2 online this weekend? You probably noticed that everyone is either a zombie or a skeleton, then. What do you mean you didn’t? How unobservant are you!?

Anyway, in aid of Halloween, Naughty Dog have made the online competitive matches into a battle of Skelzor versus Dead Explorer, giving me quite a surprise when I spawned looking way too thin or, in the supermodel industry, only slightly overweight. Yes, I know Halloween was yesterday, but the change lasts until tomorrow, so you should go right now if you feel like blowing skeletons up with RPGs that I don’t know how to find.

God of War 3 Demo Impressions

Posted on November 1st, 2009 by Gamoc

spacer

If you’re as lucky as I am, and you may well be so if you’re in the EU, you may well have gotten a code from SCEE in your email inbox this weekend. This code was for a demo download of God of War 3 or, more specifically, the demo that was shown at E3 this year. I wasn’t aware that SCEE was doing this due to being away from the internet for Friday and overnight until around 11am Saturday morning, so I almost pissed myself with child-like excitement when I got home and went to download it immediately (promptly getting my internet capped by doing so). You may have already seen the E3 demonstration (if you haven’t, you should have), but the demo itself goes further than what was shown on stage.

Marvel spills beans on Ultimate Alliance 2 DLC Release Date

Posted on October 30th, 2009 by csreynolds

At long last Marvel has publicised a release date, together with pricing, for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2’s first DLC package.

The new content comprises three more playable characters, namely Carnage, Psylocke and Cable, complimented by some additional Team Boosts and a handful of simulator missions. If that wasn’t enough, Juggernaut (originally a pre-order exclusive bonus character) will be made available to all for an insignificant fee.

The aforementioned goodies should arrive on the PlayStation Store (and Xbox LIVE Marketplace) on November 5th. So suit up superheroes, and visit the Marvel website for further details.

Q-Games President comments on PixelJunk Monsters Sequel

Posted on October 30th, 2009 by csreynolds

Q-Games’ President and Managing Director Dylan Cuthbert has declared that he would like to produce a sequel to PixelJunk Monsters, one of the most popular downloadable games on the PlayStation Network. It’s so popular in fact that it was recently ported to the PSP under the guise PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe combining the original game and the Encore expansion pack.

Cuthbert posted this revelation on his Twitter page, in amongst plentiful comments exchanged between him and his followers in what looks like Japanese:

‘I really hope to make a sequel too! Not sure when yet though… so many ideas, so few people to work on them.’

We too are hopeful his many ideas will translate into a follow-up to this wonderfully addictive puzzler, as words cannot express how brilliant we think PixelJunk Monsters is. In the meantime, make sure you check out Q-Games’ next title PixelJunk Shooter later this year.

New BioShock 2 Multiplayer Trailer

Posted on October 29th, 2009 by csreynolds

spacer

Over the last week or so, a number of enthralling trailers for BioShock 2 have come out of the woodwork. Well, developer 2K has released another, this time showing off the game’s Capture the Sister multiplayer mode.

The objective is pretty straightforward. Players will join ‘a like-minded band of citizens’ (other players we imagine, represented in the video by deceptively cute caricatures wielding hammers, spanners and the like) and try to capture as many ‘little sisters’ within a set time to achieve victory.

Escorting one to the little sister deposit vent will not be easy, mind you. As you fend off the trigger-happy opposition desperately trying to thwart your efforts, she’ll do all manner of things escape your clutches; screaming, wriggling, biting, and she might even throw the occasional punch. It’s like a violent twist on a babysitter’s worst nightmare. With guns.

Now, be good children and click the link above. You wouldn’t want to make Big Daddy angry…

The PS3 releases this month have been as strong as ever, and fortunately the great games are still flooding in for Christmas time. Hit the jump for the latest scores.

District 9 Blu-ray Disc to include God of War III Playable Demo

Posted on October 29th, 2009 by csreynolds

spacer

It may not be the most logical or predictable combination, but the Blu-ray edition of Neill Blomkamp’s movie District 9 (due for release December 29th) will include an exclusive PS3 playable demo of God of War III built into the disc.

Peter Dille, SCEA’s Senior VP of Marketing and PlayStation Network, explains the thinking behind this:

‘Blu-ray functionality has long been a differentiator that separates the PS3 from other home entertainment systems [...] through this collaboration with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment we’re able to create a unique experience only available on the PS3 system that blends two of the most popular entertainment options available, watching District 9 and playing God of War III off the same disc.’

Whether gamers will be prepared to fork out a hefty $39.95 (no EU or UK details as of yet, we’re afraid) just to get an early hands-on of Krato’s forthcoming gore-fest remains to be seen, though you can be certain that PS3 owners attracted by films which tackle the issues xenophobia and social segregation within extraterrestrial contexts will definitely be getting their money’s worth.

Expect Uncharted 2 DLC by Christmas

Posted on October 28th, 2009 by csreynolds

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is on everyone’s lips right now. Naughty Dog’s gem has received unfathomable amounts of praise since it hit the shelves a fortnight ago, having exceeded everyone’s expectations in terms of presentation, gameplay, longevity and overall excellence. In fact, sales figures have already surpassed those of Drake’s Fortune.

We were beginning to think the hype might start to die down now… not a chance. In a recent interview with Industry Gamers, Creative Director Amy Hennig has disclosed details of upcoming downloadable content that will enhance the game’s multiplayer experience:

‘There will be DLC available before the end of the year. Without going into specifics, it’ll involve new maps, new characters, things like that. Some of it will be free of charge and some of it will be purchasable. We’ve got a lot of people on the team working on this stuff, some really cool stuff that people will be excited about.’

Rest assured, as soon as we uncover a release date, you’ll be the first to know.

Third-Person Play Confirmed for Modern Warfare 2

Posted on October 27th, 2009 by csreynolds

spacer

Robert Bowling (Infinity Ward’s Community Manager, for those of you who might have spent the last few months dwelling under a rock) has confirmed to Joystiq that third-person perspective online playlists will feature in Modern Warfare 2 (released November 10th – again, for the rock dwellers).

According to Bowling, this feature cannot be toggled on or off in any match, but rather players can participate in specific game modes where this viewpoint is mandatory for all. After digging a little deeper, we found some spoiler in-game footage for you. Sadly, the quality is rather poor, but it’s enough to demonstrate what we’re talking about. We also discovered a seemingly legitimate screenshot of the various match types available, including those dedicated to third-person gun combat.

It appears the epically popular FPS franchise is branching out, however slightly, into the ‘TPS’ arena. We have to wonder if this news has Naughty Dog worried about the future for Uncharted 2’s multiplayer…

We have our views; what are yours?
