spacerearly morning Dubai #1
I got back to the UK late last night after being in Dubai since the 29th of last month. It was my tenth trip since 2007 and it was probably the longest and busiest. It was also one of the most rewarding. Ill tell you all more about it over the next few days, both here and on my new blog, but in the meanwhile I thought Id share this one: taken while I was shooting for Sony with their new full-frame camera, the SLT-A99 (Ill be writing a bl', '300');"> spacer spacer

A shot of 13 of my students, taken earlier today during my Landscape Photography workshop at this years GPP Fotoweekend event. This is the last shot Ill be blogging from the UK for a while as I leave for Dubai on Monday morning and wont be back until the 11th of next month. Its going to be a fairly hectic trip: Im spending two days shooting for Sony prior to launching the SLT-A99 at a press conference on the 6th, I have a one-to-one student for a couple of days, and Ill running three of my favourite workshops at GPPs Fotoweekend event (two of which have now s', '300');"> spacer spacer

I was down on Blackpool beach yesterday morning, getting filmed for a short opening video for the press conference Ill be involved in Dubai next month, for the launch of the Sony SLT-A99. The last fifteen seconds were of me setting up this shot. As I was being recorded I wasnt paying quite as much attention as I might normally, but Im pleased with how this one turned out.

And again, Im seriously impressed with the A99, its a very', '300');"> spacer spacer

This is the second shot from the Sony SLT-A99 and, as youll see if youve already taken a look at the original, the processing was quite extensive: involving a change to the overall tone and a massive increase in contrast, particularly along the horizon (the curve was almost vertical for this section). It did need some noise reduction – theres no way you can expect to make such radical changes without introducing some noise &', '300');"> spacer spacer

spacerBye Bye Bulgaria
As many of you know, Im heading back to the UK today for the winter, and will probably stay there until Spring. Libby and I and the kids have spent most of our time in Bulgaria over the last three years, but this year we decided to head back to Blackpool. I love the Bulgarian winters, but theyre just too much hard work. Well, if you have other work to do at least. Every time Ive been to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat (Oman) Ive taken photographs of the huge chandelier that hangs in the centre of the main hall, and each time Ive ended up with some reasonable shots, but nothing that Ive been sufficiently impressed with to share. spacera very British summer
I took this back in August when I was in the UK running my Creating Dramatic Images workshops, and despite appearances to the contrary it was actually a very warm day: loads of people were swimming, kids were splashing along the waters edge, but this poor lad looked like he was about to freeze to death. As such I decided to process it to make the weather and sea look a lot colder: changing the scene to match his mood.
<table border="0" ', '300');"> spacer spacer

Since starting work on my (relatively) new Udemy course on black and white photography pretty much all of my black and white conversions have been intentional, i.e. Ive started out knowing that I was going to produce a black and white image. I bumped into this guy on Blackpool seafront a few weeks ago and while we chatted I asked if hed mind if I photographed his camera.
