Youth (age 12 and under)

KIDCO (age 5-11)

An after-school and summer recreation program for children ages 5-11, in kindergarten through fifth grade. (Some centers accept 12-year-olds or in sixth grade.)

  • A safe, comfortable place for children to be after school and during the summer.
  • An opportunity for kids to express themselves through various art forms, sports and special events.
  • A place to practice physical fitness, experience healthy alternatives and learn respect for the body.
  • An environment that helps promote self-esteem, encourages listening and caring and where positive values are reinforced.
  • An opportunity to develop varied interests, to practice recreational skills and to experience positive use of leisure time.
  • A time for friendships and socializing.

KIDCO registration is handled through Registration Services on a space available basis during the summer and fall (school year) sessions.

Drop-in After-school Program (ages 5-12)

Free program Monday-Friday, 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm. Activities include: Homework time, games, arts and crafts, movies, sports, guest speakers and field trips.

This program is offered at Oury Recreation Center, 600 W. St. Mary's Rd., 520-791-4788.

 

Leisure Classes for Youth (ages 12 months and up)

A variety of exciting leisure classes for youth, ranging from toddler to teen, are offered at various locations

 

Schoolzout Program (ages 5-12)

Day camps offered at recreation centers during school days off and holiday breaks. (Not all days offered at all centers.) Activities include games, sports, arts and crafts, cooking, performing arts, field trips and special theme activities. Fee required. For more information please contact centers.

 

Link II (ages 5-12)

Free after school and summer afternoon recreation program for ages 5-12. Activities include games, pool tournaments, field trips, swimming, arts and crafts in an open recreation setting.

Available only at Pascua Neighborhood Center,785 W. Sahuaro, 520-791-4609.

 

Open Recreation (ages 7and up)

For youth ages 7 and older. Game room activities include Playstation 2, computers, billiards and foosball.

Scheduled hours for open gym activities also available. Facility pass or daily fee required. Santa Rosa Center, 1080 S. 10th Ave., 520-791-4589.

 

Stay and Play Program (ages 3-5)

Stay and Play is a great way to introduce your child to others their age and still have the security of having mom, dad or caregiver there. Each week we will introduce crafts, games, singing, storytime, building relationships and cooperative playtime. Adult must attend class with registered child. Only registered children allowed in class, no siblings.

Child must be potty trained; parent is required to assist once per session.

Teens (age 13-17)

In-Betweener's Schoolzout Program (ages 11-14)

This is a free program for youth ages 11-14 (11 year olds must be in middle school). Offered at El Pueblo Regional Center, 101 W. Irvington Rd., 791-5155

Freedom Center Teen Program (ages 12-17)

A.C.T.I.O.N. program Wednesday, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Offers the participant a means to exprerience, gain knowledge, and formulate an opinion on current issues affecting their community through the creation of a series of appropriate media. Freedom Center, 5000 E. 29th St., 520-791-4969.

 

Art In Reality Program – A.I.R. (ages 13-21)

Free visual and performing arts program for all youth ages 13-21 living in Pima County. AIR provides fall and spring 10-week programs, ending with the “Keepin' It Real” performance showcase.

Through collaborations with the City of Tucson, public, charter, and alternative high schools, AIR meets the following goals and objectives: delinquency prevention, development of healthy bodies and minds, provides school credit and community service opportunities and increases youth employability.

Classes vary and range from Poetry to Break Dancing. For more information on classes, locations and times, please call 520-791-4865.

 

Martial Arts and Resiliency Skills Program – M.A.R.S. (ages 6-16)

Free program for ages 6-16. Traditional martial arts training and mentoring. Tuesday and Thursday, 3:00 pm -4:00 pm, at Freedom Center, 5000 E. 29th St., 520-791-4969.

 

Jr. Teen Scene (ages 11-14)

This after-school and summer recreation program for youth ages 11-14 consists of activities geared around special focus themes in the areas of life skills, arts and crafts, dance and music, community service projects, sports, games and career development.

Non-refundable registration fee required for non-City residents. For sites and times, check the current Program Guide and Class Catalog, and register online.

 

Jr. Leadership Volunteer Program (Ages 13-17)

Teens can register for this program during the summer or school year and assist our youth program staff as a Jr. Leader at KIDCO after-school and summer recreation programs. In addition, if skills in lifeguarding are more of an interest, Jr. Lifeguards assist during the summer at our City pools. Teens will gain leadership and work experience skills in addition to building self-esteem and confidence. Fun activities are also planned with this age group in mind. Santa Rosa Double Digit Teen Club (ages 10-13)

For ages 10-13. Meets Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Club includes: sport competitions, cooking, crafts, field trips, special events, and community service projects.

Participants must pay Center's users fee.

Adults (age 17+)

Regional Center Memberships – Fitness/Wellness Activities

Center Memberships – Recreation, Neighborhood and Regional Centers offer a wide variety of fitness/wellness opportunities for adults.

Facility amenities, which vary from center to center, include weight rooms (for ages 16 and up), racquetball courts, open gymnasium time, billiards, air hockey, foosball, indoor and outdoor walking tracks and locker rooms. Daily fees required.

Passes available for 20-visit or quarterly/annual use for individuals and families. Take a look at the centers section for more information about specific center amenities, or contact the center directly.

 

Adult Volunteer Program

Make a difference, be an adult volunteer. Volunteer opportunities are available year round for adults over 18 years old in Parks and Recreation camps, centers, KIDCO and aquatics.

Centers offer different activities for adults 50 years and older. May include card and table games, trips, billiards, crafts, weight room use, exercise classes, computer classes, speakers, track use and swimming pool use on certain days and times (where available). Annual membership rates $25 for City Residents and $30 for Non-City Residents. Programs offered at the following centers:

Senior Olympics

This annual sports festival attracts more than 3,000 athletes, ages 50+, during a 10-day span in late January. Events include: aerobics, archery, badminton, baseball, basketball, billiards, bocce, bowling, bridge, Canasta, chess, cribbage, croquet, cycling, Euchre, 500 Cards, golf, horseshoes, novelty field events, novelty swim events, Pinochle, powerlifting, racquetball, road races, shooting, shuffleboard, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track/field and volleyball.
