Frequently Asked Questions

1) Where did you get your trough sink?
Aren’t trough sinks lovely? I don’t actually own one (although I wrote about them here), but I’ve heard this is a great source if you’re in the market. Also. If you are a trough sink vendor, please contact me at gabrielle@designmom.com. I’d like to become an affiliate (wink). (This question arrives in my inbox all. the. time. I’m not even kidding.)

2) How do you do it all? How do you achieve work/life balance?
After the trough question, this is my next most frequently asked question. And the answer is: I don’t. Not even close. In fact, on some level, I believe the whole idea is a myth. If my blog is really good on a given week, then you can bet my house is a wreck. If my blog seems a little bleh, then it’s guaranteed we’ve got a lot going on at home. If you know me in real life, then you know I work in my pjs as often as possible and that I’m a very typical mom. As each new child joins our family, I have to learn to be a more flexible and lower my expectations another notch. (Want more on this topic? I was interviewed in detail about how the Blairs manage things here.)

One more thing. Please keep in mind that on this blog I attempt to keep things very positive and showcase the best and prettiest things happening in my life. That doesn’t mean there aren’t bad days and failed projects and lost tempers. At the end of the day, blogs are a show. I suppose that’s why we like them so much.

3) Are you done having kids?
Wow. So personal. But yes, after the current baby is born, I think we are.

4) Will you add my blog to the Design Mom blogroll?
Man. I wish I could, but I don’t actually have a blogroll. Maybe I will add that feature at some point in the future.

5) How do you manage your curly hair?
Lots of product. Lots of conditioner. And I only get it wet every 3rd or 4th shower. Here’s a post detailing my hair system.

6) Are you LDS?
Yes, I’m a Mormon. But I only have one mom.

7) How can I get in touch with you?
I’d love to hear from you. Please email me at gabrielle@designmom.com.

8 ) Why haven’t you answered my email?
Oh man. I’m so sorry. I work really hard to answer as many emails as I can, but my inbox often gets the best of me. My sincere apologies if you haven’t received a response. Please know, I read every single email. And I especially appreciate email from readers.

QUESTIONS ABOUT REVENUE & ADVERTISING

1) How does this site make money?
The main source is ad revenue. I’m represented by Federated Media. They fill the 3 largest ad spaces with display ads from a wide variety of sponsors. I also sell the display ads in my left hand margin to small businesses. In addition to display ads, I form sponsor partnerships and trades (for example, I partnered with Mayflower for my cross-country move. You can read a dissection of how that partnership worked here.)

If you’d like to advertise on Design Mom, please contact me at gabrielle@designmom.com.

2) Tell me about giveaways? Do you receive one prize to keep and one to give away? Do companies send you tons of free stuff?
I do receive some fun things in the mail. And it’s always a delight to get a package. But, because I currently don’t make my shipping address publicly available, I receive a lot less stuff than you might think. If a vendor wants to send me something, they have to ask for my address. And unless I need to see the product’s function up close, or shoot better product photos, then I typically decline.

Be assured, if someone sends me a product and I decide to write about it, I’ll definitely let you know I received a freebie. I’m all about full-disclosure.

And no, when hosting a giveaway, I do not receive a prize for myself.

3) Any other sources of revenue from this site?
Yes, I’m also an Amazon Affiliate. If you have a blog or website, you can become one too. Why not?

4) Can I advertise on your site? Or provide a giveaway prize?
Let’s talk. Please send inquiries to gabrielle@designmom.com.
