    You might want to update the install instructions for Fedora. Simply modifying the number from 16 to 17 does not work.

    The standard Debian settings don’t allow a sudo command. So either you have to install the package “sudo” and to add the needed users to the sudo-group e.g. with the tool “users-admin”. Or you have to use the command “su” before you enter all the given lines (without “sudo”) and “exit” in the end.

    Very good. I have two comments regarding the debian repo:

    1.) I can’t find the mdm (display manager). That one would be very nice
    2.) As mate-desktop debends on libmatenotify, it would be usefull if it also depended on mate-notification-daemon

    Trying to install on top of Ubuntu Precise 12.04. I follow the directions above, but get, on the second “sudo apt-get update,” this set of errors:

    The packages.mate-desktop.org website seems to be accessible, so I don’t think this is an access issue.

    Peter, on 12.04 I attempted the add-apt-repository with the same results as you, than I tried manually adding to /etc/apt/sources.list and all is good now.

      Hi folks: I cleaned my apt cache and then put the mate repository into sources.list by hand, erasing two lines that had been automatically installed–one for the mate repository and one for the mate repository sources. I also added a carriage return after the repository line (which wasn’t in the sources.list). I was able to install MATE just fine.

      Only problem: I’m using a large external monitor with the HP laptop on which I now have MATE installed. In MATE, the default is mirrored monitors, which means the external monitor has low resolution (everything looks odd). When I try to shut down the laptop’s monitor & increase the resolution on the external monitor, nothing happens. Ubuntu is fine w/ the monitors. Seems like MATE doesn’t have the right drivers for me yet. I’ll just wait & see.

    I installed mate 1.4 on ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I got the mojo back spacer ….Since the introduction of unity on Ubuntu I stopped using linux and also stopped wasting time on linux. Once I heard mate 1.4 is available I installed mate 1.4 and it is really cool…
