NEW: Employer Talking Points on the Hospital Safety Score

The Leapfrog Group is the leading national non-profit organization taking action to change the way health care is purchased and delivered. We serve as the employer's voice on health care issues in the local and national arenas.

Leapfrog helps employers attain their goals – to save lives and reduce costs – through the principles of value-based purchasing.  The collective leverage of our purchaser members enables us to stimulate large-scale change in the health care system.

Our members commit to the Group's purchasing principles and use their purchasing power to alert America’s health industry that big leaps in health care safety, quality and customer value will be recognized and rewarded.

If the first three Leapfrog recommended safety and quality practices were implemented in every non-rural hospital in the U.S. we could save over 57,00 lives, prevent up to 3 million medication errors, and save up to $12.0 billion each year (Lwin 2008).

Organizations who receive less than 25% of their annual revenue from the healthcare industry qualify for Leapfrog Membership and receive benefits that help them in health plan negotiations, cost reduction, and analysis of services offered to their covered lives.  Companies with more than 25% of their annual revenue from healthcare can become a Leapfrog Partner and receive a unique set of benefits that allows them to provide input on Leapfrog's policy directions and programs, give presentations and white papers to Leapfrog members, and increased visibility to potential clients.

When You Stand With The Leapfrog Group You Stand For:

  1. Transparency in Health Care – The Leapfrog Hospital Survey is the gold standard in public reporting of health information, and still the exclusive national source of information by hospital on the most important quality and safety concerns of purchasers and consumers. Leapfrog data is used by over 25 other public reporting agencies including WebMD and Consumer Reports.
  2. Standardized Measurements– Fuel healthy competition among hospitals by reporting on standardized measures of quality, efficiency, and safety.
  3. Incentives and Rewards – Stimulate the delivery of both high quality and efficient hospital care through payment reform to reward excellence and discourage poor performance.

Leapfrog Members Influence Health Policy:
For the past three years, Leapfrog’s CEO was ranked among Modern Healthcare’s 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare—continuing Leapfrog’s tradition of appearing on the Top 100 list for 10 of the last 11 years and testament to Leapfrog’s influence and ability to advance the purchaser agenda in health care reform in Washington and throughout the country.
