In the Loop
Weaver D's Closing?
No matter how beloved, it's not automatic that a local business can keep the doors open

"We were listening to the UNC radio (station) there and they were playing an R.E.M. song. I like R.E.M. fine, but at the end of it, the DJ says, 'Ya that was R.E.M., the sound of the new South'. I looked at my roommate and we said, Gawd, if that's the sound of the new South, I preferred it when it was on the skids. That's how we got the name."

I'm not sure how they would approach this but I know in the past, that they weren't too keen on trying to preserve landmarks that are so closely associated with them, such as the trestle.

Oh yeah, that's right. I had forgotten about the trestle.

You'd think Flagpole would know Automatic for the People is not a 1995 album.

I sure hope it doesn't close down.  Historical landmark status aside, it just a good place to go.

I've never been but would like to someday. Kind of seems like a lot of the R.E.M. Landmarks are going away, such as the trestle, the steeple, weaver d's...

Without second guessing them, I doubt the band would step in.

Also, I imagine the press attention will assure more customers, at least in the short term.
