Illuminate the Bay Bridge in celebration of its 75th anniversary and of the rich culture of the arts in the Bay Area.
The Bay Lights is an iconic light sculpture designed by internationally renowned artist Leo Villareal and produced by Illuminate the Arts. Similar to the ambitious lighting of the Eiffel Tower for its 100th anniversary, The Bay Lights will commemorate the Bay Bridge’s 75th Diamond Anniversary (at 7x the scale of the famous Parisian landmark). The installation, which will include 25,000 LED lights hung on the Bay Bridge cables networked to create complex algorithms and patterns across the West Span, will live for two years providing a stunning fine arts experience for the entire Bay Area and its visitors with the goal of illuminating the arts both locally and globally.
THE BAY LIGHTS is project of Illuminate the Arts.
Solar credits for energy used will be provided by Clean Path.
Fiscal sponsorship provided by ZERO1: The Art & Technology Network.
If we are unable to meet the goals required to turn on THE BAY LIGHTS in 2012, the funds raised will go to the creation of another Leo Villareal piece in the Bay Area presented by Illuminate the Arts.
