Let’s end the week with a newspaper blog.  Bankruptcy Beat provides “an inside look at companies in trouble,” and it’s from the Wall Street Journal’s Daily Bankruptcy Review.  As you might expect, each day you’ll find news stories on notable bankruptcies and other items on companies with money troubles.

On Brief is described as “Iowa’s Appellate Blog,” and it’s published by the firm of Nyemaster Goode (of Iowa, of course).  It’s authored by eight of the firm’s lawyers, and is devoted to appellate litigatiog, with a focus on the Iowa Supreme Court, Iowa Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.  Like most appellate blogs, they do a lot of reporting and analysis on recent opinions from these courts.

 

Blawg of the Day – Persuasive Litigator

The blog Persuasive Litigator “aims to provide litigators and other devotees of legal persuasion with practical tips and innovative litigation strategies spanning pretrial and trial phases for jury, bench and arbitration settings.”  The blog’s contributors are all litigation consultants, and include Dr. Ken Broda-Bahm, Dr. Kevin Boully, Dr. Karen Lisko, and Dr. Shelley Spiecker.   Some of the topics they have discussed recently include focusing on the signal and not the noise in pretrial research, knowing the limits of political empathy, cutting through the stickiness of “prior beliefs,” and much more.  Some really interesting topics being discussed, and updated regularly.

Today we’re visiting a law school blog, focused on regulatory news, analysis, and opinion.  The blog is RegBlog, and while it’s affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania Law School’s Program on Regulation, it’s staff by students from multiple schools at the University. It’s broken down into News, Analysis, and Opinion, with some really great content.  You’ll find recent posts discussing regulation on Election Day, Medicaid expansion, and protecting privacy in DNA sequencing, among others.

 

Blawg of the Day – Texas Employer Handbook

The Texas Employer Handbook is published by Michael Kelsheimer, a lawyer with the Dallas firm of Looper Reed & McGraw. He started the blog because he was “dumbfounded by the lack of practical advice about employment issues available in books and on the internet,” and that “employers are overwhelmed with technical jargon, underwhelmed with long-winded explanations, or just flat provided incorrect information.” Michael’s blogging about such topics as social media and employee productivity, discriminatory use of criminal background checks, the Worker Adjustment and Retaining Notification Act, and more.
