The election is over, now our real work begins. PDA and our partners will address the lame duck session and sequester debates, working to educate Congress. This month we will meet with and deliver letters to our elected officials, focusing on the Robin Hood Tax, Medicare for All, prosperity, and peace in our home districts and on Capitol Hill.

Most meetings and letter drops will be on November 21st.

Find an Action | Organize an Action | Listen to Conference Call

Do a letter drop, and / or call the Capitol switchboard at (202)-224-3121

Download this month's letter to legislators and media advisory.

Join activists telling your legislators to support Prosperity not Austerity:

Support investments in people--education, job training, job creation. Oppose any legislation or effort which would cut Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid benefits--or which could endanger those programs. Cut spending on weapons and war by 25%.

The Robin Hood Tax:

The Robin Hood Tax also known as the financial speculation tax (FST) would generate hundreds of billions of dollars to fund job creation and kick-start the economy as well as save the social safety net via  Rep. Keith Ellison's  "Inclusive Prosperity Act."   Watch Rep. Keith Ellison and Michael Lighty discuss the Robin Hood Tax.

Out of Afghanistan:

Educate your member of Congress about H.R. 780--Rep. Barbara Lee’s bill which would require that funds for operations in Afghanistan shall be expended only for the safe and orderly withdrawal of all U.S. armed forces and Department of Defense contractor personnel from Afghanistan. Cut spending on weapons and war by 25%.

Medicare for All:

H.R. 676--Rep. John Conyers’s bill establishes a non-profit universal single payer healthcare program, an improved "Medicare for all" program; and H.R. 1200--Rep. Jim McDermott’s "American Health Security Act" establishing universal health care coverage by incorporating existing programs.

Jobs for All:

H.R. 870 / 4277--Rep. Conyers' 21st Century Humphrey-Hawkins Full Employment and Training Act which would establish the National Full Employment Trust Fund to create employment opportunities for the unemployed. And, H.R. 2914--Rep. Jan Schakowsky’s "Emergency Jobs to Restore the American Dream Act" which would create an emergency jobs program that will fund 2,242,000 positions.

Previous actions supported the following:

Tax Carbon to Stop Climate Change: H.R. 3242--Rep. Pete Stark's "Save Our Climate Act which would reduce emissions of carbon dioxide by imposing a tax on primary fossil fuels based on their carbon content. This legislation would use the revenues generated to lower the deficit and send money to the American people to help defray any higher energy costs. PDA is partnering with the Kids vs. Global Warming / iMatter coalition to demand meaningful action to stop climate change now. Click here for the PDA action alert to save our climate. Read a PDF on the Carbon Tax here.

Political Rights for People, not Corporations: H.J. Res. 88--Rep. Jim McGovern’s the "People’s Rights Amendment," a constitutional amendment to overturn the US Supreme Court’s January 2010 ruling in Citizens United v. FEC and to make clear that corporations are not people with rights under the US Constitution
