Bob Mould’s Kickstarter campaign to fund the release of Walt Disney Concert film now underway
11/16/12
Bob Mould has launched a Kickstarter campaign with the goal of bringing the now legendary See A Little Light: A Celebration of the Music and Legacy of Bob Mould all-star tribute concert to an audience beyond the lucky 2300 attendees who made it into Los Angeles’ Walt Disney Concert Hall on November 21, 2011.

Fortunately, filmmaker Justin Mitchell was on hand to document in high quality audio and video the amazing interpretations of Bob’s decades-spanning catalogue of Hüsker Dü, Sugar, and solo classics  turned in by the likes of Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Britt Daniel (Spoon), Ryan Adams, No Age, Craig Finn and Tad Kubler (The Hold Steady), Margaret Cho with Grant Lee Phillips, and Jessica Dobson (The Shins, Deep Sea Diver)–as well as the rehearsals, preparations, interactions and lead-up to the night’s unforgettable performances.

Watch the trailer for See A Little Light: A Celebration of the Music and Legacy of Bob Mould

The current Kickstarter campaign will fund the completion of this film–from editing and production to bandwidth, packaging, shipping and more–while offering Bob Mould fans exclusive collectibles including a limited edition 7-inch single, a commemorative T-Shirt, a set of prints, and more. Visit Bob’s Kickstarter page for more information.

Bob Mould’s critically acclaimed new solo album Silver Age as well as the new reissues of the Sugar catalog are available now on CD, LP and digital in the Merge store.

Radar Brothers release Eight in January on LP & digital only
11/08/12
Radar Brothers return with Eight, a very special new release only available on LP and digital beginning January 29. Featuring an expanded band of brothers including Stevie Triechel and Be Hussey from The Illustrated Garden as well as new members Dan Iead (formerly of The Broken West) on guitar/pedal steel, Brian Cleary on keyboards and Ethan Walter on piano and synthesizers. Between the two keyboards and Iead and Putnam’s guitars, the band orchestrates a swirling fervor that glides over Triechel and Hussey’s rhythmic aggressions.

The band called the record Eight (being their eighth), and it may well be Radar Brothers’ darkest, hardest rocking, most psychedelic, and yet most intensely personal album to date. From Putnam’s tribute to Joni Mitchell’s cover art (The Hissing of Summer Lawns) to the surreal, picturesque lyrics to the unidentifiable textures and sounds that pour from your speakers like liquid paintings—this may also be the band’s most visual album to date.

So forget everything that you know or have ever thought about Radar Brothers. From the very start, Eight explodes with newness and bold, otherworldly jaunts. While paying tribute to their past on several songs, the band retains its swagger in this new territory throughout the rest.

Pre-order Eight on LP now in the Merge store. LP will include CD in package. All pre-orders will be shipped to arrive on or before January 29 and receive a free Merge slipmat.

Amor de Días to release The House at Sea in January
11/06/12
Amor de Días, the long-term collaboration between Alasdair MacLean (The Clientele) and Lupe Núñez-Fernández (Pipas), will release their sophomore album The House at Sea in the US on January 29 and in Europe on February 18.

While their debut album Street of the Love of Days took three years to make, The House at Sea was recorded and mixed in only nine days. As a result, the sessions centered around a smaller band—the twin Spanish guitars and voices of Núñez-Fernández and MacLean, and an occasional rhythm section of James Hornsey and Howard Monk, both formerly of The Clientele.

The fast pace of the sessions resulted in a rawer, more urgent album, recorded by Brian O’Shaughnessy (My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream, Denim, Birdie) on 1970s valve equipment with a feeling for space and a deliberately limited palette, all the elements of which had to count.

The House at Sea is a snapshot of a year’s songs written in London and Madrid. There are pop songs, delirious dream accounts, strange lyrical puzzles, and stories from the city and the suburbs. The theme of the sea threads its way throughout the record along with a gentle sense of drifting and departure, of being lost, of saudade—a sadness at lost things.

Pre-order The House at Sea now in the Merge store. LP Preorders will include a free Merge Records LP slip mat and a poster. Preorders will ship to arrive on or around the release date of January 29, 2013.
