About those scarfs…
I bet you were wondering how those scarfs got to look so cool. I will say it was many days of hard work. It had to be hot and it could not be windy. It took me about a day to do one, although I did get a little faster towards the end of summer. My fingers got very stained with multiple paint colors, and yes that was rather fun. I don’t have any shots of the painting process itself because I was painting not taking pictures. But I do have the drying process.
And then the finished product.
Pretty nifty, eh! Each one is unique and I couldn’t mass produce them if I tried. So go check them out over here and feel free to convo on Etsy if you have any questions.

October 12th Snapshot
Coming this November to this fabulous Etsy shop, Fabric Cuffs. Yes, I told you how to make them in the Quilting Arts Gift issue but sometimes you just don’t have time to deal with all the fusing, fussing and stitching. These lovely bands of fabric are on their way to becoming one of a kind wearable artwork. I’ll have several other different pieces available as well for you holiday shopping. Get the whole story on Lynn’s blog and stay tuned.

Little Surprises
Last fall C&T Publishing invited me to draw up some illustrations for their next quilt label collection CD. I happily jumped on board and sent several cool designs off to them. Then I forgot all about it. So last week when I got my copy in the mail it was a nice little surprise. It has a ton (and I really do mean a lot!) of really cool illustrated label illustrations ready for your next project title. So go check it out. Its called Quilt Label Collective CD from C&T Publishing.

Drum roll please…
I am so excited to be a part of Quilting Arts Gifts 2012-2013! I have not one but TWO projects in there to share with you. Also included towards the back of the issue is my mom’s cookie bar recipe which I promise is good chocolaty eats.
The Khaki Coasters project has a screen that you can purchase over at my friend Lynn’s Thermofax Screen shop on Etsy where you can pick up a more than one screen or upload your own designs. Be sure to check out my other work available for purchase at the Studio Lams Etsy Shop!

Painting in the last days of summer
Kids are back in school! This means I’ve had time to finally start tackling some of my own art projects. One of which is sun painting some silk scarves that I acquired. Silk is still a relatively unknown realm for me. I’m usually in the fabric store bargain bin digging out white cotton remnants for future dyeing and surface design. But here I have to tackle something that is not only silk but functional *gasp*. Yes, dye paint may be in the future for some of these but for the moment silk paint is my method of attack. And I must say some of the results have been rather awesome. I plan to sell these in my Etsy shop once I get more than three done. Why only three so far you ask? Because windy days don’t work for sun painting.
I have several more exciting things to reveal in the next few days, so stay tuned!

Preservation is a good thing
How to Preserve a Husband
This poem was hiding in one of my grandmother’s old cookbooks, waiting to be rediscovered. This old made new again piece was screen printed, hand colored, then machine stitched together with vintage quilt squares and commercial fabric and wrapped on stretched canvas.
Available in the Studio Lams Etsy shop in various colors and sizes!

Today’s feature is a bit musical
Crescendo
Take relief rubbings from 100+ year old upright grand piano, a children’s guitar, a couple wood flutes, and a harmonica & you have the beginnings of this music series.Beginning with a lighter print from another piece, the fabric was then screen printed a second time with a new design and Acrylic paints with fabric medium.
I used watercolor crayons, silk screen medium and acrylic paints to create this piece. You can learn the process yourself in my article in Quilting Arts Surface Explorations eMag. But even better, you can purchase this piece in my Studio Lams Etsy shop!
