Chicago's rash of gun violence, which saw 16 people injured in a six-hour stretch from 5-11 p.m. Tuesday, continued unabated on the Independence Day Holiday. On a day where the official temperature at O'Hare International Airport reached 102 degrees—tying the record high for the Fourth of July—five men were killed and another 21 were injured in shootings across Chicago Wednesday. That's five dead and 37 wounded by gun violence in Chicago since 5 p.m. Tuesday

The shootings started early Wednesday with the death of 31-year-old Robert Snipes, who was killed during an argument with another man on the West side. Two more men were found dead around 11:20 p.m. 35-year-old Antonio Givan was found dead on the 100 block of East 68th Street and 27-year-old Corey Parker was found with gunshot wounds to the head and chest on the 1500 block of West 78th Street. As Wednesday moved into Thursday, 27-year-old Anthony Suarez was shot in an apparent gang-related drive-by shooting and was pronounced dead at 2:44 a.m. An 18-year-old man died from a gunshot wound to the chest on the 4800 block of West St. Paul Avenue.

Not all the violence was related to gunfire. 11 people were arrested in connection with a mob beating of a man on the Near North side. The attack occurred on the 700 block of North Dearborn around 11:20 p.m. the victim was listed in good condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

In other news related to the recent spat of gun violence, the 10-year-old girl who was shot on the West side Tuesday night as she was cooling off in front of an open fire hydrant is recovering nicely and is reported to not need surgery.

Take a class on how to defend yourself.

Then arm yourself so that you can protect your wife, your husband, your children, your parents, and other loved ones. from the vermin who would prey on you and kill you just to see the look on your face.

Refuse to be a victim to these savages!

the 10 year old shouldn't have been out at 11:20 pm. And she sholdn't have been playing in a hydrant. not that she should have been shot, but parents need to take responsibility of... well.. being shitty parents.

This is why when I visit a city like Chicago, I ask the person at the car rental desk to take a Sharpie and trace a line around the sections of the city I don't want to find myself in.

The U of C does this with admitted students.

So the whole campus is outlined?

The DMZ is bounded by 47th St, Cottage Grove, the Midway, and the lake. Closer to the center or Indian Village, the better.

NYPD brass 'demand explanation' for shooting rise

By Larry Celona , Doug Auer and Jamie Schram The New York Post

NEW YORK — NYPD brass have demanded that three commanding officers explain at next week's CompStat meetings why shootings are on the rise in their precincts, The Post has learned.

The 46th, 67th and 103rd precincts — University Heights in The Bronx, East Flatbush in Brooklyn and Jamaica in Queens, respectively — have some of the most significant spikes in violent crimes in the city, a source said.

The "commanding officers will get yelled at," a law-enforcement source with knowledge of the meetings said yesterday.

You made my point for me. East Flatbush and Jamaica -- I'll add South Ozone Park, Corona and parts of Queens Village.

  • Nicholas

    Yeah, like all of it.

  • splicernyc

I see what you did there.
