The Battle of Verdun
We had a question about the Battle of Verdun this week. It was inspired when I came across this video on Veteran’s Day. A really fascinating look at the battle, WWI tactics, and life in France at the time. There are 4 parts to the video, so it runs about 35 minutes, but it is extremely compelling. Worth a watch if you’re a history buff. Also, I cannot recommend enough the book All Quiet on the Western Front. Perhaps the best war book I’ve ever read. Just heartbreaking, and really brings to life the horror of WWI. The paperback is 95 cents on Amazon. Get yourself a copy.

Hamilton’s “Beauty in Distress”
Here’s my final piece in the Philly Post. This is a really fun one. There was a remarkably salacious sex scandal in Philadelphia in the 1790s that makes the Petraeus one look like child’s play.

Yee-Haw! Sour Mash to Perform at JGTAI on Sunday
We’re going to get on down at City Tap House on Sunday with the bluegrass sounds of Sour Mash. Fun band. Gonna be a great time. Hope to see ya there. And remember, if you haven’t earned an invite, it’s not too late. You can earn one at wild card week by finishing first or second. I’d say your best chances are tonight at O’Neals and Thursday at Ugly American, though to win at O’Neals you gotta knock off the red-hot Mr. Mapother.

Interview With Green Party VP Candidate Cheri Honkala
In case you missed it this past week, I interviewed Cheri Honkala, a Philadelphian who ran for Vice President this year as a member of the Green party. She talked about Obama’s false hope, Romney’s mental health, and what the toughest part of campaigning was.

Wild Card Week Starts Tonight
The results are in and will be posted soon. Invites will go out tomorrow morning. If you are not in the Top 16, however, do not despair. There is still hope. There is still wild card week. If you can finish in the money at any quiz this week, you will be offered an invite to attend the JGTAI this Sunday at the City Tap House. Quiz will start at 5:30 p.m., and we’ll be taking on teams across the country. More details coming throughout the week. Gonna be a lot of fun.
We start at the North Star at 7 p.m., where for the past two quizzes the team who call themselves “We Always Finish 4th” have indeed finished 4th (above). Can they make it three in a row? And can you finish in the Top 2 and earn an invite? Half off mussels and hummus, and $3 Kenzos.
On to the Sidecar at 9:15 p.m. Can you knock off the Sidecardigans?
