The profession baseball team, the Seattle Mariners is based in Washington. Since 1977 they have been members of the western division. They played their first home game in April of 1977 to a crowd of over 57,000 spectators. At that time, they played their home games in the Kingdome stadium. Since 1999, they have played their home games in the Safeco Field.

In 1991 they enjoyed their first winning season, with an 83 - 79 finishes. Although their best season, it was only good enough to land them in fifth place. In 2003, they were off to a great start but were beaten by their rival, the Oakland A's. After a late season, six game losing streaks, the team would not recover and they would not make the playoffs. During the 2007 baseball season, the team ended with a 44 - 33 record. Going into the 2008 season, while they had hoped to continue with their 2007 luck, they instead found themselves with one of the worst offenses in team history and they once again struggled.

The Seattle Mariners have been a team full of controversy and bad times since early on. They have also accomplished some noteworthy achievements. This team will continue to rise above controversy and play some serious baseball games.
