Playing the game sudoku can be highly addictive and challenging. For those that are not familiar with sudoku, it is a logic based number game. The object of the game is to take a 9 x 9 grid and fill in the open spots with the numbers 1 through 9. Each column and each row of the grid must have the numbers only once. Grids will come with partially filled columns and rows depending on the difficulty level of the puzzle. For instance, in a beginner puzzle several numbers will be already in the grid. In the more advanced puzzles, only a few numbers are in the grid. This keeps the game challenging as you become more accustomed to it.
A Japanese puzzle company created the modern version of Sudoku in 1986. The name Sudoku actually means single number. It wasn’t until 2005 that this game became a success internationally. The first country, besides Japan, to run a printable sudoku was England in November of 2004. Shortly after that, the game made its way to the United States when a New Hampshire newspaper a printable sudoku. It was not long after, that the puzzle game started reaching new heights of success and popularity.

As with anything that becomes an overnight success, there are going to come variations of that particular product. Sudoku is no stranger to this. There are some 12 x 12 grids, 16 x 16 grids, and the biggest to date, a 25 x 25 grid. There are even some versions of printable sudoku that combine it with other popular Japanese puzzle games.

The popularity of sudoku is so great that there are even national championships for the game in the same way there are national championships for other popular board games. There is almost not a place where someone can turn and not see sudoku in some form or another.

You can find printable sudoku near the comic section of the local newspaper. Also, printable sudoku has been collected in puzzle books that are available at game stores, bookstores, and airport gift shops. With so many ways to try printable sudoku, enjoyment can be found for just about everyone.
