Inauguration Day 2009
Be a Part of History on Inauguration Day
WASHINGTON — The Newseum, the only museum with a direct view of the inaugural parade route on historic Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., has announced a special event package for Inauguration Day, Jan. 21, 2013.
The Newseum will not be selling general admission or group tickets on Inauguration Day so that the facility will be accessible to Inauguration Day Package holders only.
Tickets are $100 per package. Children six and under will be allowed to enter at no charge. Packages are valid for Inauguration Day only, and are nonrefundable. The event is expected to sell out, so purchase your tickets early. For information on Inauguration Day procedures, please visit frequently asked questions.
Doors will open on Inauguration Day at 9 a.m. and remain open until 5 p.m. Press Pass members will enter the building through a specially designated line at the C Street entrance. To become a Press Pass member, please contact membership@newseum.org.
The Newseum's Inauguration Day Package will include:
- A welcome kit with commemorative merchandise
- Live feed of the swearing-in ceremony on the 40-by-22-foot high-definition media screen
- Full access throughout the day to the Newseum's 15 theaters and 15 galleries, including the popular exhibit "Every Four Years: Presidential Campaigns and the Press" on Level 6
- Food and beverages available for purchase
The Newseum's prime location on Pennsylvania Avenue provides limited views of the west front of the Capitol, where the swearing-in ceremony will take place. After the ceremony, the president is scheduled to pass directly in front of the Newseum as he makes his way to the White House.
The Newseum will be media-central for the inauguration, hosting most major television news networks along with radio broadcasts, print reporters and photographers from a wide array of organizations.
Newseum terraces will be closed to the public because of Secret Service regulations. The terraces will be transformed into temporary television studios in order to accommodate the multiple live television broadcasts.
