The BWI supports the international day of action on 14 November

The BWI supports the international day of action on 14 November, when in Spain there will be a 24 hour general strike. The BWI, which represents more than 300 unions and 13 million workers in the construction and wood industries worldwide expresses our solidarity with the European Trade Union movement in its rejection of austerity measures .

The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) has called for demonstrations on 14N in a European Day of Action and Solidarity with the theme "Employment and Solidarity in Europe" and to Say No to Austerity!

For the BWI, the austerity policies are responsible for the economic strangulation and the dismantling of the social model in many European Union countries. We defend the sectoral and territorial collective bargaining model currently under attack by governments in Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece through their vicious austerity policies and cuts in public spending. The General Secretary, Ambet Yuson, extends a message of solidarity to the comrades for the day of action "The demonstrations will win results. Our Trade Unions are leading the defense of labour and social rights of society as a whole by demonstrating their absolute rejection of austerity measures ".

In Europe, on November 14 Spain, Greece and Portugal will have general strikes, while in Italy there will be a four-hour stoppage. In the other European countries the Trade Unions have convened widespread protest actions and demonstrations against cuts and austerity.
