A moment to Breathe

Have you ever been forced into one of those visualization/meditation seminars where they make everyone lie on the ground and visualize or clear your mind for a short period of time? We all have, whether it was for work or school or just cause you wanted to try it or it sounded interesting. Since that exposure, have you tried meditation or visualization?

If you are like me, probably not. You walk out thinking lesson learned, i need to be more in touch with what my mind is telling me and i need to relax. You may have even thought it a silly exercise and not like you got much out of it. I now want you to think Really hard about how you felt when you opened your eyes. The moment the meditation was finished. I would guess that you felt pretty damen good, relaxed and refreshed. You don’t have to admit it out loud but i know how you felt and so do you.

Now, lets fast forward to today. The holidays are a time of great stress and lots of hustle and bustle right? Wouldn’t it be nice to take 5 minutes out of your busy day to recharge and feel refreshed and ready to take the world on? Here is an exercise for you.

Find a quit place where you won’t be disturbed and people won’t walk in on you. A closet or bathroom will work or close your office door or just find a bench outside. Set your watch or phone to beep in 5 minutes. Close your eyes and try to clear your mind. This is kinda tough but the best way i have found is to focus all your attention on the darkness and try to make that darkness complete in your brain. Thats it. In 5 minutes, open your eyes but not before and carry on with your day.

Try to notice how this makes you feel for the rest of the day. Other positive outcomes might include better sleep at night, better relationships at work etc…

For those of you claiming to be too busy or not allowed to take a break, just tell your boss you need a smoke break or a snack break or you forgot something in your car. Bam! Five minutes with no hassle.

Workout:
Sn PP+OHS x 2+2
Single Leg DL x 8
Followed by:
3x 25 wall ball 45-60 sec rest between sets
rest 3 min
3x 25 KB swings 45-60 sec rest
rest 3 min
3x plank

Weightlifting:
sn drop no drive x 4
sn platform x 2
Sn pull Platform x 4
