A quick post with some of the more weird and comical fireworks I found yesterday, featuring ever-weirder clip-art usage and ever-more-beautifully-strained cultural references ("The NY Mets Are The Most Explosive Squadron!").

So, happy 4th, everybody.

Coincidentally, this is my first attempt at indoor iPhone photography, a critical mobile-phone function for ol' Mr. Sasser. I'm impressed overall — the shots look pretty good, as you can see, although it took a steady hand and gobs of Photoshop color correction. I do quite miss the awesome macro/auto-focusing lens on my old Sony Ericsson K790a, but that's the official end of the list of things I miss about my k790a, and that feels very good. As a side note, the iPhone caused a small-scale teenage excitementriot in the fireworks store — even the mostly-toothless (serious) old firework store owner excitedly asked me to turn the phone sideways so he could see a web page rotate right before his eyes. Yeah, I'm guessing this iPhone thing is going to do all right.

Comedy gold, as usual Cabel!

My real question is how do you happen across these things? Do you have some sort of special ability to have comedic things in life drawn to you for your own observation and sharing with the rest of us?

P.S. CABLE!!!!! why dont you make a video review of the iPhone like you did with your Nintendo DS Lite! I haven't got to see the iPhone very good so you could explain in detail all its functions! =D me likey iPhone! x3

For some reason, what tickles me most is that most of them say "Warning: shoots flaming balls".

Love it.

Could only be improved by replacing it with "Warning: shoots great balls of fire".

(PS: iPhone review k? All the cool kids are doing it!)

OMG Cabel... don't say that.

I need to believe my K790a is useful in some ways. Part of the reason I bought it was because of your review! Don't give up on my now, man. I can't afford an iPhone. :(

sambeau: A wonderful idea, but I think David Pogue jumped my shark (!) before I had a chance to jump it myself. :)

Seriously, though, I wonder if there's room for another iPhone review in this universe. What Can Cabel Bring To The Table™? Hmm. I'll take it under advisement... :)

As for room for another review - us Brits are going to have to wait until christmas to get our hands on one. So we need whatever scraps we can get..

I could watch them all day. (Pretty much have been really.)

Remember back before Fireworks On Demand, when the fireworks would just sort of detonate whenever they felt like it? NO LONGER ARE WE AT THE MERCY OF THE FIREWORKS NETWORKS!

I gotta go set some of those ones shaped like smiley-faces to TiVo...
