Chuck Welch

spacer Though he refuses to give his birth date, Chuck remembers learning to program BASIC on one of these in middle school. (Keen eyed old people with all their facilities will recognize that’s a terminal and not a computer. Whippersnappers unaware of the difference should consult an encyclopedia Wikipedia.)

From the heyday of the Bulletin Board Systems through the birth of the Internet into today’s HTML 5 implementation, Chuck has designed, forged, fit, altered, shoehorned and sitesmithed software to bring information to the public. (A less satisfying stint in traditional media is now just a distant memory.)

In an effort to understand why people communicate useless minutia alongside the personal poetry of existence, Chuck has jumped into and swam the murky depths of every social media experiment. Living to glean the gold from the dross, Chuck brings considerable first-hand experience to bear on the current climate.

With the resume of an actor, Chuck has spent his days and nights in such positions as cartographer, bookstore owner, columnist, newspaper editor, director of volunteer services, publisher, IT director, and once, during an odd period in his life, a “problem referralist” for the US Bureau of the Census.

Since moving to Lakeland, Chuck has published Lakeland’s very successful alternative news source, Lakeland Local. He has regularly given classes on social media and personal publication. He helped found and served on the boards of BikeLakeland and ConnectLakeland. The former had a very successful 2011 while the latter is set to debut in 2012.

He’s sure there’s more, but frankly, Chuck subscribes to “What have you done lately?” and is looking forward to how his new venture, MediaLakeland, will help local businesses develop organic growth and stay sustainable through the marketplace rollercoaster.
