HELPFUL INFORMATION

Below are computer requirements to view the GPS Tracker.

Browser Requirements:

• All major browsers are supported (IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari )
• One must have JavaScript Enabled for the GPS Tracking Application to work
• One must have Cookies enabled for the GPS Tracking Application to work

Getting Started with GPS Tracking:

1)      Logging in: One must login and have a paid subscription to view GPS Tracking for the 2012 Iditarod Sled Dog Race.  Upon first visit, if you are not logged into your Iditarod.com account (with a current GPS Tracking Subscription) you will be redirected for login.  Once logged in, you will be sent to the IonEarth GPS Tracking Application.  If you wish to stay logged in, it is recommended that you check the ‘Remember Me’ option before logging into your Iditarod.com Insider Account.

2)      Viewing Racers:  To get started viewing the race, you should choose your racers under the Control Box on the left titled ‘Choose Your Racers’.  You can view by – All Racers – or choose racers individually that you would like to track.  We have a new feature called history, which will show the racers last 10 GPS points on the map, with their trail highlighted.  Your selections will be remembered when you re-visit the tracking site (provided you have cookies turned on).

3)      Selected Racers/Racers Grid: After adding your racers to the Map, there are 7 columns that are populated in the Racer’s Grid.  Most are easily identified as to their purpose.  There is a Status column which does include abbreviations that do require further explanation.  The acronyms are as follows: NS = Not Yet Started, R = Racing, S = Scratched, F = Finished.  This is a new feature and allows you to see the current status of your favorite musher.

4)      Countdown to Update: The musher’s positions will auto-update every 10 minutes (this feature can be disabled under Race Time Controls).  Also, you can view the current race time (AKST) in case you are viewing the race from a different Time Zone.

5)      Race Time Controls:   This year, you can view the history of the race by using the play buttons above the time slot selector.  It’s best used when you turn off auto-update so as to not interrupt the viewing of the history as the time selector will automatically update to the most recent time when the auto-update toggle is set to ‘On’.

6)      Map Zoom Controls:  If you wish to Zoom into your selected mushers, use the ‘Zoom to Racer(s)’ button.  Conversely, to zoom back out for a full course view, use the ‘Zoom to Course’ button.

7)      LeaderView: The LeaderView provides a view of mushers with respect to course position.  It is not intended to be an accurate representation of the race leaders, but rather it is sorted by musher’s position on the course.

8 )      MobileView: For lower broadband connections and mobile devices, the Mobile View offers statistics for mushers position on the course and checkpoints completed.
