    Message from the organizing committee

The 14th International Behavioral Ecology Congress will be hosted by the Department of Biology at Lund University, Sweden, in 2012. The congress is scheduled from Sunday August 12 to Friday August 17. The Biology Department was created in 2010 when three former biology departments were merged. It has 250 employees, not counting post docs, guests, etc. There are 42 professors and around 80 PhD students. The biology department has a strong tradition in behavioural ecology research, we can mention only a few here; migration in birds, fish behaviour and predation, foraging theory, sexual selection in insects, optimal flight behaviour, and so forth.

Lund University is Scandinavia’s largest institution for higher education with around 6000 employees and 46000 students. The University was founded in 1666 although a college for higher education was founded here in 1425 and a cathedral school already in 1085. The city of Lund has around 100,000 inhabitants and it is situated in the southernmost Swedish province Skåne (Scania). Skåne is situated in the European deciduous belt with the surroundings being dominated by farmland and beech forest.

The conference venue will be in the picturesque old parts of the University in downtown Lund. Here the lecture halls and a poster exhibition hall are closely situated around the old University Square where a large congress tent will be erected.
