    CARBONDALE -- The NCAA's active double-doubles leader came to Carbondale and showed SIU why she is the reigning two-time Southland Conference player of the year.

    Megan Herbert scored 32 points and grabbed 24 rebounds to help Central Arkansas spoil SIU's season opener 59-46 at the Arena Tuesday night.

    Frigid shooting and overall poor play put the Salukis in a 24-13 hole at the half. Southern did come alive in the second, but could get no closer than four before falling by 13.

    SIU will hit the road Saturday to take on Loyola Chicago.
