LDAP integration Integration with any LDAP directory, such as Windows Active Directory, allows enterprises to manage Abiquo users entirely through LDAP or Active Directory tools.
Multi-tenancy The ability to separate user groups by organization, division, group or department in any combination, and for each to have their own entity centric management view.

Total Control and Visibility for IT Operations

Feature Benefit
Global infrastructure management By combining storage, server and network management across local, remote and hosted datacenters, IT can create global Private, Public and Hybrid Clouds of unlimited complexity, all managed through a single pane of glass. Additionally, Abiquo allows infrastructure components to be put under central management progressively, meaning instead of a rip and replace approach, it will oversee all components centrally from the single pane of glass and put them management when needed.
Deep integration and interoperability with VMware vSphere Works in conjunction with VMware vSphere to manage VMs and share resources. Bi-directional event driven integration keeps all management tools synchronized. Also provides deep integration with VMware’s Distributed Virtual Switch (DVS) for on-demand VLANs plus vMotion, DRS and HA awareness to ensure Abiquo is automatically updated when a virtual machine moves.
Support for all major hypervisors Hypervisor support becomes a non-issue, allowing organizations to focus on the higher value of management functionality. Abiquo supports VMware ESX and ESXi including version 5, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer, Xen Community, Virtual Box and KVM. In addition, all hypervisors can be deployed concurrently.
Virtual to Virtual (V2V) conversion between all hypervisors ends vendor lock-in Vendor lock-in to any particular hypervisor is eliminated through a single drag and drop VM converter. This operation converts a VM on any supported hypervisor to run on any other supported hypervisor.in minutes. Even if organizations have no immediate plans to change hypervisors, the fact they have the ability to do so reduces risk and substantially improves their negotiating position with hypervisor vendors.
Advanced networking capabilities Virtual datacenters can each define a practically unlimited number of named VLANs and configure them as desired. Each VM can have an unlimited number of Virtual Network Interfaces, connected to a different private VLAN or public network for total flexibility. Multiple public VLANs can also be defined including parameters at the rack level and usable tag ranges. In addition, for customers that access their hosting providers using MPLS circuits or for customers that require full control of virtual machine IP address assignment, Abiquo’s networking stack can be tailored to suit these unique configurations.
Resource limits Ensures that no entity can cause physical capacity of the system to be exceeded, and encourages users to release un-needed resources quickly.
Massively scalable Stateless architecture provides three deployment models depending on scalability requirements. A single commodity server can manage hundreds of VMs. Distributing services across multiple servers can manage many thousands of VMs.
Switching and Networking Management Supports any VMware vSphere environment that uses the Cisco N1Kv or VMware Distributed Virtual (DVS) Switches. In addition, for VMware DVS environments, Abiquo can provision VLANs when the VMs are deployed, allowing “just in time” infrastructure changes and “real time” capacity consumption.
High Availability regardless of hypervisor brand Abiquo’s vendor neutral automatic VM restart capability allows Enterprises deploying multi-hypervisor environments to have a consistent and predictable high availability mechanism.
Supports progressive deployment in live environments In addition to leveraging the hypervisors native VM placement and balancing algorithm (such as VMware DRS), Abiquo can also override these algorithms in situations where more predictable placement is sought. Automatic inventory of host machines identifies hardware characteristics and existing VMs. Progressively assigns VMs to an Abiquo Virtual Enterprise or allows them to continue to be managed exclusively by existing hypervisor tools.
Role based access control Role-based access control provides the ability to define an unlimited number of individual user roles, and to assign any combination of privileges, selected from a comprehensive range, to each. This provides infinitely granular control of user permissions.
Support for Cisco UCS Cloud administrators can easily discover, add and manage new or existing Cisco UCS deployments into a shared cloud infrastructure pool. In addition, Abiquo utilizes UCS service profiles templates to automatically configure the server, adapters, fabric extenders, and fabric interconnects to match the configuration specified in the service profile.

Role-based Empowerment for Application and Development Teams

Feature Benefit
Opscode Chef Configuration Management With Chef, IT can write abstract definitions as source code to describe they want each part of their infrastructure to be built, and then apply those descriptions to individual virtual machines. Chef saves you money by allowing your business to support larger, more complicated IT infrastructures with less manpower – just deploy the virtual machines, and let Chef take care of the rest.
Storage as a Service Through API level integration with NetApp storage systems, including systems running in multistore mode, Abiquo enables tiers of storage to be defined to deliver storage as a service to end users.
Delegated control Frees the IT infrastructure team from the need to provision and manage every virtual machine while empowering authorized users, reducing backlog and bottlenecks and significantly increasing agility and flexibility.
Appliance library Allows segregated maintenance of virtual machine images and appliances across public, shared and private libraries. Allows grouping of multiple virtual machine configurations into a single appliance for simple and rapid deployment. Allows IT organization to provide or prescribe pre-built images to corporate standards.
Service Catalog Abiquo provides an open source web based end user portal that provides a simplified experience to provision VMs. This allows building a service catalog to enable preconfigured deployment of virtual appliance, Enable an approval process so that virtual appliance request requires approval from Central IT prior to deployment and provision VMs from any end point including mobile devices such as the Apple iPod/iPad.
vApp Canvas The vApp Canvas allows construction of sophisticated multi-tiered applications in an easy to ease user interface. It allows drag and drop of individual virtual machines from the image library, customization of resource, specification of VM boot order and allows a single power on/off command for the entire vApp.
Simple Provisioning Portal Abiquo now provides a complete portal, which leverages the Abiquo API, for self-service creation of virtual enterprises (tenants), virtual datacenters (sub-tenants) and virtual appliances (applications), and is fully customizable for “fast-track” implementations, as well as delivery of a simple service catalog. The portal also supports an optional approvals workflow including full email integration for “one-click” management.

Governance and Efficiency for Compliance and the CFO

Feature Benefit
Business Policies Enables the organization to set, edit and manage business policies from a single, centralized policy editor that then completely automates the allocation of virtual resources across the physical infrastructure. Business policies can be set based on security, compliance, energy costs, savings as well as utilization and load balancing.
Autonomous Virtual Enterprises Empowers users with multi-tenant Virtual Enterprises that allow full control over server, storage and network resources. Each Virtual Enterprise manages its own role-based user group and operates within strictly enforced resource limits. Virtual Enterprise users are fully isolated from physical hardware allowing risk-free, self-service provisioning and management.
Pricing and Billing Engine Abiquo can assign a price to any billable resource, including CPU, RAM, storage, networking and guest OS image type. This native capability enables chargeback and billing capabilities with multi-currency support.
Full Featured Reporting Through integration with JasperSoft, Abiquo provides a full-featured reporting engine allowing highly formatted, customizable and exportable reports.
