Sterling Partners With HarperCollins UK On Reprints Of Classic Thrillers

Posted at 10:48AM Friday 20 May 2011

London, 20 May 2011: Sterling and HarperCollins UK have teamed up to breathe new life into 57 classic modern thrillers. They will be launching the programme with the complete works of bestselling authors Alistair MacLean and Len Deighton (between them they've already sold over 50 million copies of their books in the United States alone).

"When we learned in conversation with HarperCollins UK that MacLean and Deighton's backlists were out of print in the States, we realised this was an opportunity to bring these fast-paced stories and compelling characters, facing everything from triple-crossing Cold War spies to deadly modern viruses, to legions of new fans," says Sterling President Marcus Leaver.

HarperCollins UK's Group International Publisher, Chris Wold, who negotiated the deal with Marcus Leaver said: "The works of Len Deighton and Alistair MacLean contain between them some of the finest characters and storylines of the action and adventure genre. I'm very excited to see the enthusiasm Sterling has for bringing these fantastic stories back into the US market. Many people there will know of the numerous classic films based on these books, but they won't have seen the original books. There's a huge audience in the US who are in for a real treat."

In early June 2011, just in time for summer holiday reading, Sterling will release 10 MacLean titles, including HMS Ulysses, The Guns of Navarone, Ice Station Zebra, When Eight Bells Toll, and The Lonely Sea. These will be followed in August 2011 by 12 from Deighton, including The Ipcress File, Horse Under Water, Funeral in Berlin, Billion-Dollar Brain, Bomber, and Declarations of War.

"We have a busy publishing schedule planned, rolling out this year with 11 titles and adding 12 to 16 each following year," said Executive Editor Nathaniel Marunas. "And in welcome news to his fans, Deighton is writing new introductions to every one of his books."

These titles will be available in the US in trade paperback editions and as ebooks and will feature modern jackets that speak to the timeless appeal of these bestselling novels.
