Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME)
GME prepares physicians for practice in a medical specialty. GME focuses on the development of professional skills and clinical competencies as well as on the acquisition of detailed factual knowledge in a specialty. The GME process is intended to prepare the physician for the independent practice of medicine and to assist in the development of a commitment to the lifelong learning process that is critical for maintaining professional growth and competency.
The single most important responsibility of the GME Office is to provide residents and fellows in programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) with organized educational support, guidance, and supervision in order to ensure their professional and personal growth while also ensuring safe and appropriate patient care. The quality of the GME Office is directly related to the quality of patient care.
