Call your members of Congress and urge them to co-sponsor the No Budget, No Pay Act (H.R. 3643 and S. 1981).You can also click here to email your lawmakers.

Talking Points for Your Call

1. Your most fundamental responsibility is deciding how much money the government takes in and how much it spends. To do this job responsibly, you need a budget.

2. As a member of the grassroots movement No Labels and your constituent, I urge you to co-sponsor the No Budget, No Pay Act.

3. According to the bill, if the congressional spending process is not completed by the start of the government's fiscal year on October 1, congressional pay ceases. Your salary would not be paid until you completed your job.

4. Only four times in the past 60 years has Congress passed a concurrent budget resolution and all appropriations bills on time

5. It's time to hold government accountable. Please send a signal that you are willing to put some skin in the game to solve the dysfunction in Washington.

Sonya B. from Overland Park, KS called Sen. Pat Roberts (R KS)
Sen. Roberts has not taken a position. I communicated to his staff that it is a fundamental responsibility of his congressional role to finalize a budget. And, that as it is for his constituents - if we don't meet the expectations of our jobs...we don't get paid - it should be the same for Congress. It is a job, we expect for them to get done - starting with a budget, or don't get paid. As a senior Senator, I asked that Sen. Roberts show his leadership by supporting the bill. I let his staff member know that I would be sharing Sen. Roberts "no position yet" stance through a post on the bi-partisan, grassroots No Labels organization website.

Sonya B. from Overland Park, KS called Rep. Kevin Yoder (R KS-3)
Rep. Yoder has not taken a position. Rep. Yoder's staff also added that he hasn't co-sponsored the bill, so probably won't vote in favor. I communicated that it is a fundamental responsibility of Yoder's congressional role to finalize a budget, to move beyond partisan negotiations of holding the budget hostage, and that for us, their constituents, if we don't meet the expectations of our jobs...we don't get paid - which should be the same for Congress. Starting with the budget. I ended by expressing the hope Rep. Yoder decides to publicly announce his active support, and that I would be sharing his current "no position yet/no support" stance through a post on the No Labels website & other media.

Paul C. from West Hartford, CT called Rep. John B. Larson (D CT-1)
An aid listened to my comments and was able to quote the number of congressmen who have signed on. He said 70+. He took my name address and told me I would hear back. I told him I did not want a form letter. I want to know specifically why Congressman Larson is not on board especially now that Jim Himes is on board.
