Emily, Kim, Alison, and Katelyn are the senders whose letters inspired the songs and story of For The Sender. Proceeds generated from their letters are going to causes they chose, making the project truly ‘for the sender’. Emily has asked that her share go to Kim’s shelter, and Alison’s relief organization and Wyatt’s education fund will also benefit. By supporting For The Sender, not only might you find hope and healing through the book and music… you will be helping to heal others as well.
Alison founded We Advance with two other women in Haiti as a movement to advance the health, safety, and well being of women throughout Haiti. They work in some of the poorest slums in all of the western hemisphere – Wharf Jeremy and Cité Soleil – where security issues deter the work of most international NGOs. They start from the bottom because it’s where they are needed the most and, as co-founder and activist, Barbara Guillaume, says: “If we can change the worst of Haiti we can change all of Haiti.” www.weadvance.org
Kim is establishing her own shelter for homeless kids in San Diego county. For The Sender is supporting her efforts.
Wyatt was still an infant when his father, police officer Dan Bessant, was slain in a gang shooting while on patrol. Dan’s widow, Katelyn, sent a letter to Alex, which became part of the For The Sender project. Wyatt’s family has set up an education fund for him, which will benefit from the project.
