THQ clears up comments made by Metro: Last Light developer about the Wii U's CPU being 'horrible' and 'slow'

By Tracey Lien at 12:14a 11.23.12

A THQ spokesperson has clarified comments made by 4A Games' chief technical officer, Oles Shishkovtsov, in which he described the Wii U's CPU as "horrible" and "slow" and said that developing Metro: Last Light for the console could potentially be detrimental to the overall quality of the game. The comments were originally made in an interview with NowGamer, but a representative of 4A Games and Metro: Last Light, Huw Beynon, has clarified the comments, saying that just because the game is CPU-intensive doesn't mean the development team couldn't get around it. In a statement to Eurogamer, Beynon said: It's a very CPU intensive game. I think it's been verified by plenty of other sources, including your own Digital Foundry guys, that the CPU on Wii U on the face of it isn't as fast as...

How Queasy games made people want to compose music through Sound Shapes

By Tracey Lien on Nov 22, 2012 11.22.12

The developers behind Sound Shapes — the PlayStation-exclusive side-scrolling platformer that merges music with platforming — reveal how they turned music by Beck into game levels in a new interview with The Creator's Project. In the interview, Jonathan Mak, the founder of Queasy Games, and musician Shaw-Han Liem, share their experience deconstructing Beck's music and creating game elements around it. Liem says that a big part of the design consideration is introducing ideas that are digestible and convincing people they want to compose music, as this gives them the impetus to continue playing through a level. "They didn't necessarily buy the video game because they wanted to compose music, but part of what we tried to do is create those connections and introduce those ideas in...

Cooperatives: Nintendo Land

By Chris Plante on Nov 20, 2012 11.20.12

This week, Frushtick and I visited Nintendo Land, the happiest place in your living room. We saw the sights, rode the rides and Frushtick got motion sick because he has a baby's tummy. What did we think? Watch the video above to find out, then hop to the comments and share your opinion. Because like Nintendo Land, Cooperatives is better with friends. (And listen up, commenters, I know that octopus is not Mr. Game & Watch, but it is in a Game & Watch game so we're cool.) Just a Thought: Video Game Music

By TheOmegaSpartan on Nov 01, 2012 11.01.12

So I just had a thought and I will have many more. I will dedicate these "Just a Thought" threads to anything in particular pertaining to video games. This thread will be about the soundtracks found in video games. Music has existed in games for as long as I've been playing them. Like in many other forms of media, music adds a level of atmosphere to a particular scene or scenery. From the beeps and bloops of the classic era of gaming to the full blown orchestras found in many triple A games today. You have a favorite as do I and everyone else. But today, as I was deciding which games to place in my favorite or all time for this thread, I was reminded of why I love The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. It was the music. It is stunning as it is memorizing. I simply cannot get enough of...
