About
Beginning in 2003, J.T. Kirkland (Sterling, VA) has engaged in an active and successful art career. He has had solo exhibitions in cities such as New York, NY, Washington, D.C., and Richmond, VA, in addition to many curated group exhibitions across the country. In January 2010, Kirkland was an artist in residence at the Vermont Studio Center. In 2007, Kirkland’s work, Synapse, was acquired by the University of Kentucky Art Museum for their permanent collection. In 2009, Kirkland was awarded the Robert Riddick Memorial Award from the Rawls Museum and in 2006 he was selected as a semi-finalist for the $25,000 Sondheim Prize for artists in the Mid-Atlantic region and won a CummingsMFA Grant. His work has been reviewed in numerous publications such as Washington City Paper, Baltimore City Paper, Fairfax County Times, jameswagner.com, bloggy.com, DCist.com, The Collegian, The Georgetowner, DCArtNews.com, and grammarpolice.net. In addition to his own studio practice, Kirkland has curated numerous exhibitions; written art criticism for his now-retired site, Thinking About Art, in addition to others; and served as Director of Exhibitions for H&F Fine Arts in Washington, D.C.
This studio blog serves as an extension of Kirkland’s art practice. Evolving from his previous blog, Thinking About Art, this Web site will narrow the focus to soley Kirkland’s art. Posts here may explore the challenges of being an artist, revel in sporadic successes, provide a view into Kirkland’s creative process, and/or just be a place where he can grow as a person and artist. Kirkland strives to provide an honest view into his practice.

Hey Travis! Yeah, I’ve followed that gallery for a while now. I’d love to show there! They seem to be doing great things. I hadn’t see their new web site. Thanks for the link!
Mr. Kirkland, I book-marked your site when I was setting up a wordpress blog last month. I really admire your work. Good luck in Vermont !
