WHAT IS STEM?
STEM is an acronym for the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The term is commonly used in relation to need for increased STEM education programs to meet the need for an educated, skilled workforce of the future.
Northern Rio Grande STEM Collaborative
The Northern Rio Grande STEM Collaborative is providing high quality STEM education by sharing information, expertise and resources among the four public Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) in northern New Mexico.
Northern is the lead institution for this collaborative project, with two-year colleges of Santa Fe Community College (SFCC), University of New Mexico branch campuses at Taos (UNM-Taos) and Los Alamos (UNM-LA) as partners. This partnership will increase the number of students attaining degrees in STEM fields by establishing new labs, new research capacities, new STEM majors, new faculty positions, new faculty development programs, effective transfer agreements, improved distance education capabilities, and improved student advising.
