Bibliographies and "Works Cited" Pages

When writing an essay or research paper, it is required that all sources be cited in a “Works Cited” page or bibliography in order to avoid plagiarism.

There are several different formats that you can use in order to accomplish this, the most common being MLA and APA. If your instructor has not specified a preference, APA is usually associated with the sciences and MLA with the humanities.

The OWL at Purdue is a free online manual to guide you through citing your papers with a few different formats. Specifically, here are their guides for:

  • MLA
  • APA
  • Chicago

There are also a number of other resources available to help you with formatting your sources:

  • Mendeley (may be used in-browser or as a desktop client on your personal computer)
  • EasyBib
  • Son of Citation (easy lookup via ISBN if you are using books)
  • Zotero (a Firefox add-on)
