From the first shot fired at Fort Sumter to the final surrender at Appomattox Courthouse, the Civil War was a terrible time in history which pitted brother against brother and state against state.

From the Articles of Confederation to the Emancipation Proclamation to the ultimate surrender at Appomattox Court House (and many infamous battles in between), many events happened in this time period to shape our nation's history.

These also included Abraham Lincoln's address at Gettysburg and his later assassination. The American Civil War is one of the most fascinating conflicts in world history; many battlefields remain and can be toured as tangible reminders of our not-so-distant past.

I have provided a few resources which I found in my travels to give honor to those participants who changed history.
