Overview:
Since 2002, Videobox has been leading the online porn revolution with its enormous and constantly growing collection of digitized porn DVDs. After ten years at the top, Videobox now faces stiff competition from all those sites that've finally, finally caught up and now host huge archives of their own. According to Videobox's tour pages, though, there are currently 73,666 porn scenes available here, pulled from more than 13,000 DVD releases. Sure, the content isn't exclusive, but does that really matter when you're lolling around among nearly one hundred thousand porn scenes, many of them starring a veritable who's-who of hardcore? Going off the tour previews alone you'll find plenty of women you're just dying to lavish attention on, from Asa Akira to Tori Black, Lisa Ann to Rayveness, and they'll be performing every sexual act imaginable at what has been roundly declared the greatest porn site on the 'net. Videobox doesn't appear to be slowing down for the competition, though, and a number of fairly recent developments ensure that Videobox members will find a multitude of reasons to throw this esteemed company a $15-a-month bone. I could ramble on forever about what makes Videobox the best, but instead why don't we strap ourselves in and embark on a one-of-a-kind pornographic adventure with the greatest porn site in the history of the Internet, Videobox.
Pros:
Let's get this out of the way first, ok? Videobox is fucking enormous. It's bigger than a Texan Ben-Hur after thirty years consuming nothing but Dunkin' Donuts and Taco Bell. We're talking 13,131 DVD titles holding 73,666 scenes and 147,301 clips made and shared by Videobox's own users. Five new DVDs, one of them HD, are added to the archive every single day of the week, bringing about 600 new scenes to the site each month!
Videobox launched the latest version of its website about 18 months ago and has been continually refining it since. Videobox 3.0, as it's called, allows for a much more customizable browsing and viewing experience. Users can select favorite performers and be alerted when another of their scenes is added to the site, make and share clips cut from full scenes, comment on scenes and DVDs (making for fun reading), and even set up their Roku box to get Videobox on their TVs. Oh, the possibilities!
With one new HD title arriving every day, Videobox is clearly committed to hosting a strong range of High Definition porn; resolutions currently peak at 720p and look fantastic. There are plenty of non-HD videos and a variety of formats available for every scene to suit every viewing platform and preference.
Videobox should be very proud of its navigation system and the general layout of the site, both. It's so easy to find whatever kind of scene you're looking for that you could, like me, end up with, like, thirty tabs open in your browser lining up your porn viewing for the foreseeable future. Don't have time to watch 'em all right now? Just add them to one of the customizable favorites lists for later viewing; the site is full of such bells and whistles.
A few years ago, Videobox started adding supplemental channels to its already huge archive. Kink, Evil Angel, Vivid, Reality Kings, and Videobox Men all have their own channels here, each one offering a slew of great, albeit nonexclusive, content. Videobox even has fully viewable Evil Angel releases before Evil Angel's own website does. Aw, snap!
Cons:
Far be it from me to bitch and moan about a slight decline in Videobox's overall movie quality, but someone's gotta do it. Of late, an increasing number of years-old low-quality DVDs are being added to the collection. It's really only one, maybe three a week, if that, but it's definitely making some members question their subscriptions.
Videobox's Channels might add a wealth of stellar material to the site and cement relationships between this site and some of the most excellent porn producing companies currently operating, but they add cost to the regular membership; Videobox Men, Vivid, and Evil Angel channels are $8, Reality Kings is $15, and Kink is a whopping $35 per month.
The Videobox 3.0 layout can be cumbersome on some displays, as it appears to have been designed with iPad viewing in mind. Opening the comments section underneath each scene elongates the page to an unnecessary length and hides the video options; similar problems occur around the site.
Conclusion:
Historically, Videobox has proven itself to be an indispensable part of a huge number of porn viewers' online porn experiences. With all the recent changes to the site and its collection, some were no doubt worried that Videobox would no longer reign supreme. Fuck that. We're talking about Videobox here; one of the only sites on the 'net to host such a huge collection of content and the only one to do it with such professionalism and consistency. With 720p HD videos added daily, a more highly developed interface, and so many viewing options you'd suspect braille to be next, Videobox is clearly still king. That's not to say it is without faults, of course, and it'd be swell to see the price of the Premium Channels come down a touch and for further refinement of the Videobox 3.0 design. Those issues, however, are but a piss in the ocean, the ocean of excellent hardcore collected here. (I guess that makes Videobox King Neptune.)
