  • Complete redesign. Many users has complained about the oldfashioned design. Now we have a modern look and feel.

Many changes in this version. Too many to write them all down here. But here are the most important:
  • The server environment has changed! We are now using nginx together with the varnish cache, php-fastcgi and the standalone server of trac. Actually the varnish cache is deactivated, because of some configuration issues I still have to figure out. But the access and the responses are much faster than before with Apache.
    This was initiated due to very high load on the server because of an article about our project on slashdot.org.
  • We now have a completly newly rewritten update script! This script now uses native bash and doesn't rely anymore on a mailserver. It now also detects the distribution and its version. And it also contains an update notifier if the version you have is too old.
  • Login process and session management completly rewritten. There was an error in the session management that has caused a new session on every click.
  • Added the display of online users record on bottom of the page.
  • Machine summary statistics finished.
  • Implemented much nicer bars for percentage display
  • Many, many other smaller changes and fixes in the background...

  • General, basic engine behind the new counter is finished. Now we are starting with the statistics. Statistics gets generated as XML files once each night. These xml files can be accessed from outside to display the statistics also on other sites.
  • First page full of statistics finished: linuxcounter.net/short.html
  • All old, freezed accounts from the old database now were also imported into the new database. They also have the status "freezed".
  • If a frozen account logs in, then the account gets automatically re-activated and counted.
  • The whole page is again available with only. Only the login, the registration and the personal profile are ssl encrypted.
  • Display of users online implemented in bottom of the page
  • Extra page implemented with help for the machine-update script: linuxcounter.net/script.html
  • All fon-sizes now are relative (em)
