Vancouver band Nu Sensae have earned quite a reputation in the past couple years, not just for bashing out visceral hardcore punk but also for tirelessly upholding a DIY ethic—they've assembled their own vinyl packaging, cut their own patches, put out their own records, and of course relentlessly toured basement spaces and other fly-by-night venues. The band, which recently became a trio with the addition of guitarist Brody McKnight, recently took a step away from DIY orthodoxy by signing to midlevel indie Suicide Squeeze—but the more things change, the more they stay the same. The new Sundowning packs a familiar wallop thanks to Daniel Pitout's propulsive drumming and the searing howl of front woman Andrea Lukic, which if anything sounds a bit more brash this time out—and McKnight's razor-sharp thrashing adds a new harsh texture to the messy mix. —Leor Galil Bike Cops headline; Nu Sensae and Slag open.
