Barb has covered technology and high-tech companies for longer than she’d care to admit. She started out as a reporter for InfoWorld, covering Boston-area software companies; then moved over to CRN where she managed the news staff and covered the business both in terms of technology and how technology is sold. She was also news editor for TechWeb and senior news director at TechTarget before joining GigaOM. Barb enjoys seeing how old-school IT companies are (mis)managing their transition into the cloud computing era. She has won several ASBPE awards for her news coverage. Outside of work, she loves gardening, movies and baseball.

Katie has been covering cutting-edge technology, startups and innovators in Silicon Valley for close to a decade. She launched GigaOM’s greentech channel in 2007 and closely tracks energy entrepreneurs and investors. She has been a reporter at Red Herring, an editor at Engadget, and began her career as a reporter in the Silicon Valley bureau of the largest Japanese daily newspaper, the Yomiuri Shimbun. Her work has appeared online for The Economist, The BBC, Fortune, CNN, Business Week, The New York Times, Salon and Red Herring. In 2008, Katie was recognized as a Forbes Energy Genius. She has been a speaker at events like COP 16, The Commonwealth Club’s Climate One, Greenbiz’s VERGE event, The Churchill Club, The Gridwise Forum, GreenBeat, and South by Southwest, and has appeared on American Public Media, ABC and NBC, among others.

He has been writing about wireless networks and technology for 11 years, working first at Telephony Magazine and its online successor Connected Planet. Kevin spent his early career at several small Texas newspapers. He made the shift to tech writing upon moving to Chicago, where he now lives.

Derrick has been a technology journalist since 2003 and has been covering cloud computing, big data and other emerging IT trends for GigaOM since 2009. He has written the words “cloud” and “Hadoop” possibly more than any other person on the planet. Derrick lives in Las Vegas and has a law degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Away from the office, Derrick trains in muay thai and is active in animal welfare issues.

Ki Mae joins GigaOM from Adweek, where she was a staff writer covering technology. Prior to that, she produced the science and technology section for ABCNews.com and reported on topics ranging from social media and innovation to space and science fiction. Ki Mae’s previous roles include writing for an independent political news site in Malaysia, creating public advocacy campaigns for Lifetime Television and working for a U.S. Senator. She works out of GigaOM’s East Coast office and covers New York startups.

He is an award-winning journalist who has spent the past 15 years writing about business, technology and new media as a reporter, columnist and blogger. Prior to joining GigaOM, he was a blogger and technology writer for the Globe and Mail newspaper in Toronto, and was also the paper’s first online Communities Editor. Mathew is one of the founders of mesh, Canada’s leading web conference.

Eliza, who joined the GigaOM team in May 2012, covers Silicon Valley startups and innovation from our San Francisco office. She is a recent graduate of UNC Chapel Hill. As editor of the university’s digital news service, Eliza devised the editorial strategy, managed the newsroom, and guided the team’s public affairs reporting. In the summer of 2010, she launched a nonpartisan political blog to cover a New Hampshire congressional primary, breaking stories there that were picked up by mainstream news outlets.

Om has more than 20 years’ experience as a journalist covering technology and business news. He was part of the founding team of Forbes.com as a senior editor. He then went on to become a senior writer at Red Herring during its glory days before joining Business 2.0 in March 2003, covering telecom, innovation and broadband. His contributions have been published in The Wall Street Journal, The Economist and MIT Technology Review. Additionally, Om is the author of Broadbandits: Inside the $750 Billion Telecom Heist. He is also the recipient of many industry awards, including Excellence in Journalism from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Gold Award from American Society of Business Publication Editors.

Rani is a multimedia journalist and an editorial producer at GigaOM. She recently graduated from Columbia Journalism School, where she specialized in data visualization and digital media. Before heading to the big city, Rani worked for three years in the high desert as a copy editor and culture editor at the Santa Fe Reporter. Before that she served as editor in chief of her Midwest alma mater’s newspaper, The Oberlin Review. She’s originally from Long Island. These days she lives in Brooklyn, where she makes graphs, tells stories and talks to strangers. She writes mostly about technology, data visualization and media.

Prior to that, Ernie was based in Hong Kong for Dow Jones, where he was the Page One editor of The Asian Wall Street Journal. He started his career as a reporter and editor at The Associated Press.

Nicole oversees all editorial content for the GigaOM network, GigaOM Pro and GigaOM events. The former managing editor of BNET, she helped navigate CBS Interactive’s award-winning business site through its relaunch, expand to two international editions, add more than 20 blogs to its network and increase monthly unique visitors to 13 million. Nicole has helped craft online publishing strategies for print magazines since 2005 and quickly developed a specialty in launching and relaunching publications. She was part of the editorial team that launched travel magazine Afar and helped design the underlying framework for the social network Afar Connect. She has written ad copy for chip makers and Dr. Martens footwear and her articles have appeared on PCWorld.com, Chow.com, and CMT.com.

After spending 15 years in IT at Fortune 100 companies, Kevin turned a hobby into a career and began covering mobile technology in 2003. He writes daily on the industry and has co-hosted the weekly MobileTechRoundup podcast since 2006. His writing has appeared in print (The New York Times, PC Magazine and PC World) and he has been featured on NBC News in Philadelphia. Kevin’s unique approach is to use the technology as a consumer would, so that he can report back to readers honestly about what they can expect from a device or app and help them get the most out of it. Freescale has named Kevin a “Top 20 Smart Mobile Device Pundit.” When not playing with the latest gadget, Kevin is typically spending time with his family, reading e-books or running in the rural areas near his home office in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Liz Shannon Miller reviews the best and worst in web content, and has been called the Pauline Kael of online video by at least one person. She has been covering the online video space since 2006, is a member and co-founder of the International Academy for Web Television, and once curated the front page of YouTube for a day. She is also a freelancer for other publications, including Variety, The Wrap, AOL’s Lemondrop, Comcast’s FEARnet and Regent Media’s Popnography, and a playwright and filmmaker in her very limited free time. She is a staff writer for Attack of the Show. Based in Los Angeles, she holds a degree in screenwriting and interactive multimedia from USC, and enjoys space battles, old school funk and videos of cats.
