When he retired from the School of Science faculty in 2007, Bob Rigdon had rendered more than 30 years of dedicated service to IUPUI. As associate chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Bob worked with chair Bart Ng to grow the math department into an exceptional community of scholars and teachers.
But three decades of service isn’t all that Bob has given to the IUPUI campus and its students. This winter, he endowed a RISE scholarship for the School of Science, with special consideration given to students in the math department. The gift was made in honor of Bob’s parents, Geraldine and David Rigdon, on the occasion of Bart Ng’s retirement.
In addition to honoring these individuals, Bob’s gift will support the academic growth of students in the School of Science for generations to come. “When I was teaching here, I supervised a number of senior capstone experiences,” Bob explains. (Capstone experiences are courses that require students to integrate their knowledge and skills in a research or independent study application.) “I hope this gift helps students get engaged in these kinds of research-based projects even earlier in their academic careers.”
